Have just turned to an interactive stream on Telewest with BBC One Sessions playing and to my shock and horror they are using the old BBC logo!

Is that the red box one or the 1997-2002 'but still occasionally used until 2006' horizontal one?

The latter!

I noticed that when I was flicking through the Freeview channels the other day. I'm surprised they haven't updated it - they've changed everything else.

You would think they would at least do this. http://www.rp-networkservices.com/tvforum/uploads/bbc1.gif

They probably missed it *because* it's the horizontal one. A red box would have stuck out.

Anybody see that?

Kites into the news, and they didn't even give it time for the logo to form up!

Indeed. They cocked that up good and proper.

Doesn't surprise me. They've been getting closer and closer to chopping off the logo all day...

Edit: So they go the other way with MOTD and wait a while after the logo before talking Laughing

They either haven't cottoned on to the fact that with long form-ups they need to use these idents differently to the old ones, or they have cottoned on but don't give a monkey's. Channel 4 got this absolutely right and adapted their announcing style to suit their new idents - BBC One, with a sad predictability, haven't.

There are bound to be teething problems at first, after all, no previous idents have had this long an intro. Sometimes these intros are handy to fill airtime (as I've mentioned before), other times they are less appropriate but the different annos seem to be using their own judgement on when to come in.

It's worth remembering that when BBC1 first had a "formup" ident (Christmas 1987), the announcers were so used to talking straight over the globe some forgot they had to wait until after the animation before speaking. Very often the ident followed a slide which they would have been talking over.

What we're currently seeing is a learning curve for all involved; each new look presents its own challenges and things are bound to settle down.

Not surprising Hippos is topping the poll; their appeal is across the board. Children will like them and likewise their parents - it's the "cute" factor I suppose.

Mind you, others mightn't like seeing the mother-in-law between programmes... Laughing

Hippos for me.

But, it's noticeable that, after barely a week, the announcers / directors are already either a bit bored or think the viewers are, and we already have either truncated or incomplete idents or ones so curtailed that the 'BBC one' doesn't get a chance to appear.

Hardly augers well for several years' durability, does it?

I was trying to say that you'd think with them having short versions of the idents, that they would use them! lol

I wasn't shocked, just surprised.
