Did you even consider the alternative possibility, that they are just trying to publicise their "flashy" new look by showing the idents a little bit more then usual?
Could well be.
I prefer an ident to be used solely to introduce a programme before heading straight into it. Seems odd to use it for promoting an upcoming programme; I'd rather they make use of the 'Next' slide for that in the near future.

Who ever heard of 2 idents per junction anyway?
Does anyone think its to try and con people into watching the trailers
An ident comes on, the announcer announces the programme, but then 2 more trailers are shown, another ident and then another announcement

I knew it wouldn't last; not even a week into the new format for pre-programme announcements, and the CA's are mistiming their cues and missing the pips before the final animation of the idents (Hippos is clearest demonstration of this; you hear the final pips, then we get a faceful of hippo!)
Instead, the anno's are simply coming in, saying their part and then cutting straight from the ident to the programmes. At least when we had dancers they would rapidly fade the volume on the ident!
C'mon guys, the pips are beautiful, respect them.

It has returned into the news... with Football.
They seem to have fixed it, Surfers has full sound into Escape to the Country.

Is it just me or are none of these idents particularly suited to the news. Unfortunately I just dont think footballers (as was played before the morning news yesterday) is appropriate if the top story is a national disaster.
I have an idea of something which round, and therefore fits with their theme:
A CLOCK

I would suspect that they wouldn't use that ident if there was a national disaster.

some of the short versions are terrible!! The announcers are coming in at totally unpredictable times! there seem to be peaks in the music (where the announcer should start) but they are always well off! The whats on next showing of the idents is good I think.
Also, the shorts always seem to be into the news to 'stay on time'. Why don't they just show one less trailer and a long ident???!

maybe they would be stupid enough to use surfers into news of a tsunami or flood. yes the news needs a generic ident and as the new symbol is circular why not the clock.
maybe just used the moon one for the News.
