Very tasteful! Shocked Almost as tasteful as this spoof advert (although a bit OT):

Have you noticed that Surfers is the only one which doesn't remain on the circle device at the end.

Yes and that is very annoying, having said that Channel 4 don't end on the 4 either.

And don't the idents feel much fresher when they use different ones in each junction?

Yes, but the beauty of the Channel 4 idents is that the camera is always moving so we sort of have to keep looking to see the '4' because it won't stay.

All the BBC One idents are based around the circle, and the logo within the circle. Surfers is the only ident where the logo just completely looks out of place at the end because the surfs come crashing down, and there's no circle anymore.

Well presumably the footage after that was unusable! Either the camera sank or was bashed or the wave just changed too much after that to be worth it being used any more - hence the crash cut rather than a nice mix!

I quite like surfers because the circle doesn't stay till the end.

as someone said early on - it wouldn't take much to incorporate a clock into the design ...

I don't see how that helps anything. It's hardly a serious, sombre introduction that shouts 'This is the news', which has always been the argument for bringing back the clock. To me, this version has no perceptable advantage over just playing Kites.

Surely you'd need at least two clocks now, and that's why they binned it?

People would expect the BBC clocks to be accurate, but either terrestrial or digital viewers would be a few seconds out.

Interesting point - will it return after the digital switchover?

digital tv is about 3-4 sec out so there would have to run the clock 3-4 sec faster than at now
