I've just seen this headline from Design Week's website.

Red Bee Media wins BBC1 deal to rebrand on-air idents
The BBC has appointed Red Bee Media to redesign its iconic screen idents for BBC1, following a pitch held among its rostered consultancies.

I don't intend to spend £85 to subscribe to it, so don't know what else it says. Has anyone got any more details?

Sadly not, nothing on the Red Bee website. I guess from this we would probably have an Autumn launch for the new idents?

EDIT: I really hope they get rid of the boxes, and personally i think they will. They look rubbish in my opinion ands not at all stylish.

I really like the logos actually, it's just the idents that need to be changed. Just because the logo is red, doesn't mean the idents have to have an emphasis on Red.

It's not been officially announced by Red Bee yet; I believe they're going to when they've got something to show off.

Red Bee- as expected.

I hope they've hired some new people recently.

Maybe it will be done by the people who worked on the ITV rebrand?

God help us if it is the ITV team! The ITV1 idents are already boring me to tears. They say and do nothing, despite claiming to reflect my personality!! I hope that RedBee manages to strike a balance between the so-called LIVE action idents and something CG that's nice and modern. BBC One proclaims to be a more intelligent version of ITV1 basically so let's see that in the idents. If I see another bunch of Indians prancing about, Africans jumping up and down or Argentinians doing the bloody lambada I'll shoot myself!!! Evil or Very Mad

Interesting stuff. I wonder if Lambie-Nairn were up for doing it too? Let's hope Peter Fincham, the marketing team and Red Bee actually agree and execute something genuinely creative and interesting, instead of arty-farty nonsense. Maybe a 'back to basics - let's work with a new creative logo' type thing?!

Personally, I'd say breathtaking shots of Britain done in a kind of Muller Corner advert style (You know, the one where it flips around several indoor/outdoor scenes!!)

Let's not forget, Red Bee also created the rather superb-looking ITV2 and ITV3 identities, so it won't necessarily be as pants as ITV1 looks (which isn't that bad in my opinion).

Just because RED BEE designed those boring idents for itv1 doesn't mean they are bad, it all depends on what the client wants, and thats what ITV wanted.

Well obviously, ultimately the decision lies with the broadcaster, but surely the reason Red Bee would be hired is that they are a creative consultancy type company. If the BBC knew exactly what they wanted, they'd make it themselves, I'm sure they have the resources to!

Means nothing. They won't put the new designs or any details onto their website until they're done and lunched. The website is a promotion of past work.

Remember that Red Bee will come up with several ideas and even when one is chosen it will go through many designs and months of development before actually reaching the screen. Also even though they've been chosen now doesn't mean that the BBC can't decide that all their ideas are crap, change their mind and hire someone else

So they would put it up after they have lunched ? Wink *hint*
