At the end of the coming up on the programme, Anna looked so confused when the short sting music played but no VT. What was the bright pink screen that we saw ever so briefly??

What happened as far as I could see was the second coming up picture wasn't there and instead a pink screen with 'BBC Audio Feed Only' came on. It was the screen which accompanied the satellite phone link to Caroline Wyatt in Murmansk who was talked to a short time after in connection with the Kursk submarine raising project.
They didn't seem to be able to play the sting graphics either as they went to camera 3 (the main camera with sidebar) then back to the wide shot and then back to 3 with Anna looking perplexed!

Thanks for that info - but why wouldn't they be able to bring up the coming up sting - that's controlled separately, isn't it?

Should be - they put the coming up pictures (as with headline pictures) on feeds v,w,x,y,z, etc. and the sting is played separately.
Not sure what could have happened - as the sound was played but sting wasn't and I'd have thought they were linked.
It sounds like a vision mixer mistake (oops!) It happens! The vision mixer plays the sting, so perhaps they were so upset at pressing the wrong button that they missed the sting too

Yes - must have been! They were so upset they decided to cut to Anna on various different cameras...! There have been a few problems in the gallery in the past few days - the six missing the regional coming up, the one, and a few more - I suppose it's bound to happen from time to time!
Do they actually start it then? Ie. is the equipment so sophisticated now it can actually play in clips automatically, or does someone else operate a different machine to do that.
I still thing it's best done with people, you always get perfect sound and vision, but can I ask why is National News done the old fashioned way, I thought they would use Columbus too!

To scared of the thing crashing. Plus a lot of internal politics. Their time will come though

The whole gallery operation during the national main bulletins is usually perfect and seemless and there's usually not a lot seemingly going on in the gallery - I suppose it's paddling furiously underneath, but I was surprised how calm it was!
