We were told a few weeks ago that new faces would appear on weekend news on BBC One. Obviously Miss Hill is the latest new face!

Tanya Beckett would be an excellent choice. Perhaps if we are seeing faces from News24 Maxine Mawhinney might make an appearance or even Martine Dennis from BBC World.

Maxine would be great on the 1 O' Clock News. She'd add a little bit of that Oirish Charm to it!

How come they don't have a set weekend presenter. Is it because George Alagiah used to do it?

Well Sian did it first, then she went to breakfast; then Fiona and George but George is on World, Fiona still on less than usual because of her baby; Darren Jordon doing more recently (and Radio Times lists him this weekend), but he's been on the One all week and the Six on Friday... I suspect it will be Darren, Fiona and Peter Sissons regularly when things sort themselves out.

Matthew Amroliwala used to do Sats and Sundays a lot last year.

He must have stopped as I haven't seen him around on News 24 lately either!

Do we know if Jane Hill is presenting BBC One News during the week? Or is just for the weekend(s)?

One little BBC News point - not worth starting a thread for it so I'll put it here.

I noticed on the 3:20pm news on BBC TWO yesterday they were using a News 24-style 3-line aston for the live report about Thatcher. I've never seen it used on the national news before (except for the old 'News 24 is avaliable on Digital Satellite channel....' bits), it animated in the same way as on News 24, it was the normal red on ivory top line. Is it normal for them to do this when there's news just in, or is it new?

This has happened quite a few times on the BBC Two bulletin. Don't know why though!

BBC News really need to sort out their astons. They are just dismal. That purple colour looked quite nice for the first, 5 reports, but it is really horrible and boring. Dateline London's red aston is nice and so is Brekkie'scream one. Just bin the purple from BBC News
