BBC2 debuted some new idents like Excalibur and Catalyst on New Year's Day. In fact it was straight after Jools' Hootenanny finished after 1 in the morning. It won't happen though because nothing has been commisioned as far as we know.
Was the launch of a new set of idents before the start of the next day's schedule a one-off? I guess they actually wanted to debut them after the New Year began ASAP.
Excalibur and Catalyst; great idents, particularly Catalyst. I don't think the current set are as striking (for want of a better word) than their predecessors, both in visuals and audio.
When I look back I wonder why they ditched such idents in favour of the 'samey' white & yellow scheme. Too much of a good thing, maybe?
Anyways, re: BBC ONE rebrand, I'm really hoping for a new numerical 1. Surprise us, but in a good way; as some of the current 'movement' idents really annoy me, particularly Maasai and Salsa - just dreadful - eugh!
Not sure if this is new, but the programme slide for Question Time seemed different tonight. The usual box in the corner for the intro from David (and sorry for the terrible mobile phone capture)...
Were they not thinking about bringing the balloon back or something as I remember reading that on a news website somewhere? Or was that just someone lieing?

Thats exactly what that other thread is about. You are one to be quick at firing back stupid words or daft smileys (or in this case eyebrow raisers) but you have been known to create similar posts. Now I will ask another question - exactly what is wrong with the question I have just asked that makes you reply in a child like manner?

It's because if I had a pound for every time someone said, "are they bringing the balloon back?" I'd be a very rich man!
No, they're not bringing the chuffing balloon back!
No-one's every gone back and used an old brand!

Now that I have thought about it though - it was in a newspaper like the Herald or on the This Is London website. I def seen it on one of the news sites somewhere. I'm going to do a hunt about for it - perhaps I was just dreaming although that would be a nightmare not a good dream.
Isn't it a little presumptuous to be expecting a full blown relaunch on New Year's Day? Personally I can see the annual BBC One Dancer Ident launched after Breakfast at the beginning of the New Year (3rd/4th January) and then this relaunch taking place around September next year. If they are struggling to keep people at bay with the dancers for the current time why don't they introduce short versions, like on BBC Two, of the current set to add more variety and also bring back the withdrawn idents of Tai Chi Reflection, Ballet and give Haka a more regular appearance.
As for the new look perhaps we will see a number 1 in different locations around the world, similar to Channel 4 except at historic landmarks - eg. Houses of Westminster, Great Wall of China etc.
If they do that they best make sure that they get plenty of scottish ones. In fact, to be on the safe side, we best make them all Scottish
