The argument I'm having great trouble with is when Ms H tries to tell me that this new image will be more 'inclusive'.
What can possibly be more 'inclusive' than a picture of the whole bleedin' world, as in globes and balloons?
Another logic failure at the Beeb, methinks.
I think this was another case of change for changes sake. Just like BBC 2 before it, they decided to revamp the channel first, and then decided why it was necessary.
As I said then, if a channel really needs rebranding, then it will be obvious what is wrong with it and no explanation will be necessary. As long as every relaunch is accompanied by lengthy press releases talking of synergy, brand awareness and all the other crap that gets written for them, it will be yet another revamp that didn't really need to happen.
What I particularly don't like, is that every revamp gets progressively worse. I allready thought that it couldn't get any worse than ditching the globe for the balloon, looking at the new idents I see now how wrong I was.

now, asa hasnt made an appearence or comment yet, perhaps he is gearing up for another appearence on Liquid News...?
either way i am sure Liquid news will show TV versions of these idents in their full moving glory, that way we'll get a better idea on how its all going to work

i dont agree with all these people who think that there is no need for this revamp. 4-5 years is a good length for a single identity or product, and the balloon no matter how nice it looks, was outdated, and you may not like its replacement, but i remember public outcrys when the balloon came into use, but we are getting many sympathy notes now...
just because a brand is good, doesnt mean it cant do with a refresh or even a rebrand. People dont complain when SKYnews, or SKYsports etc relaunch, but because this is the BBC, the story is different.

Very true: after all Channel 5 is on its fourth new-look since March 1997: five years! An average of a new-look every 14 months!

erm, yes they do!
and as for complaining, we - or rather I - am complaining that they are getting rid of the globe. This has been the identity of the channel for over 45 years! It's not like getting a new logo - like BBC did in 1997, it's about changing the station's identity that has been like that for 3 generations!
More people watch BBC One than any other channel in the UK and this re-brand will cause many to complain that they are getting rid of a national institution. Sky is available to a significant proportion less than BBC One and therefore wouldn't get a real condemning would it?
Just as I feared. Now BBC Northern Ireland's inconsistency continues... We have BBC ONE NI on analogue, but BBC TWO NI is only displayed on digital. Even when local programmes are run....
Why not 'BBC ONE N. Ireland' and 'BBC TWO N. Ireland' on analogue, and 'BBC TWO NI' on digital, if it is really necessary to distinguish between the analogue and digital services...
I wonder will BBC Northern Ireland now decide to rebrand wholesale as BBC NI? After all UTV did it eight years ago, albeit under rather different circumstances...
Well the most important thread returns! A good thread with lots of replies was over at the temporary forum so it might be an idea if members could copy and paste their opinions back in here.
Caught that nice 22-second ident last night! Shame there's few chances for more of those...
I'm with mdta on this one. In a few years time there will no doubt be loads of different versions of this ident and they will build up a fascinating collection, and most people on here will be eating their words...
