Good for you. I'd rather have the option to tidy up my EPG. Endless scrolling through crap...

Are you suggesting that BBC1+1 is more of a "waste" than one of the many god awful shopping channels?

No, of course not! They're equally awful. I'd delete them both if I could. Don't need/want shopping channels. Don't need/want BBC 1+1.

We have enough morons nowadays who think the Daybreak clock is wrong when they're actually watching ITV+1.

How many people will write to the Daily Mail complaining that the Six O'Clock News is on at 7:00pm?

I would - not by much, but at least the shopping channels are providing new content for the bandwidth they're filling.

I would rather see more new channels or higher bitrates for existing channels over launching new +1 services on DTT.

I doubt we'll ever seen higher SD bitrates on freeview given the emergence of Freeview HD.

Interestingly I wonder whether when the time comes to cut off the majority of the SD muxes we'll be left in a situation where its all the PSB channels and their spin offs that fill freeview HD and the days of bid-up will be a quirk of history.

Will this service be the national version of BBC One or are they going to re broadcast all the nations and regions?

Good question! Smile Given that English Regions on BBC One HD hasn't even happened yet, I wouldn't hold out too much hope of BBC One +1 having any/all of the nations/regions at launch.

Taking into account sub-regions and all, I think there's about 18 variants of BBC One, isn't there?

Multiply that by 3 (i.e. SD and HD and "+1"), that's an awful lot of feeds that the Beeb have to negotiate with Sky/Virgin etc for mutually-agreeable carriage terms. And if the Beeb still insist on "platform neutrality", then us Freeview viewers will have to suffer holding cards too (as we currently still do with BBC One HD).

And also on BT Vision (the BT Infinity streaming side of things) there is BBC One HD, but its not a regional variation..the regional news isn't played out at all, even during the 8pm headlines. It's usually a filler programme until the regional news finishes, and at 8pm after the national headlines, it throws to the weather for 30 seconds...

Just like BBC1 HD on satellite and Freeview then.

On Freeview in Scotland though you can get BBC 1 Scotland HD on channel 101...

Be surprised if it included English regions - but wouldn't be surprised if included Nations.

Wouldn't be surprised if it were SD-only on Freeview? (Unless they're struggling to shift the slots in the second of the new HD muxes?)

In England. (The nations have their own BBC One HD variants)

+1 channels are a waste of limited DTT capacity and just clog up the epg - I wouldn't mind so much if I had the option to delete them but I don't.

Really?
I just ignore the channels I'm not watching, I find that a much better solution than deleting them.

Windows Media Center works well for me. You can edit the EPG as much as you like.

I can't imagine this will take much time to set up so we should see it launch soon. The new wave of HD channels hasn't been discussed much - are they still happening at the end of this year, or when?

Think late 2013 or early 2014 was the last timescale I heard?

BBC Red Button HD becomes BBC Three HD/CBBC HD on the existing PSB HD mux, whilst BBC News HD and BBC Four HD / CBeebies HD on one of the two new (restricted area) HD muxes.

It may be that they stagger the launch of the two new HD muxes? Be good if they could launch by Christmas.

Suspect BBC Red Button HD will remain until Doctor Who 50th anniversary as they need a 3D outlet...

Many Freeview TVs and boxes allow you to skip channels at the very least. My favourite feature is the ability to rename channels which I can do on every Freeview capable product I've used.
