Personally I think it's a stupid idea keeping Ballet back. It was the only ident that was really good. When you have bugger all idents then it's pointless keeping one back..... I hate Salsa as well Twisted Evil

When the Baloons were launched, there were initially something like 40 different sequences delivered, but only a dozen were approved for use on the network. As the identity settled in more of them were used and of course later on newer Baloon idents were filmed (Blackpool Tower, St Michaels Mount etc) but AFIK there were one or two of the original set that were never, ever shown.

Personally I've always found Salsa good for those weekday morning DIY programmes.... they kind of deserve each other!

Fuzzy memory suggests there were 48 in the original set, but whatever the number, all of them were used.

For example Acrobats went through a phase of disappearing completly

That was because someone died performing some acrobatics.

I think one or two were never shown on Network, or at least not officially. They were the ones with 4 or 5 very quick cuts at the top.

And even if they were all shown, I'm sure there were some that were used once or twice and then never seen again?

They were all regularly used in NI, though the Controller of BBC ONE then picked out some she didn't like (the ones with fast cuts in them) and these were removed.

Which surely helped her peddle her opinion that the balloon was "slow" and "pedestrian". Rolling Eyes
