A couple of times now watching the swimming on the red button stream, the picture's gone off (with the sound remaining) and they've put up a "temporary fault" caption. Must be years since I've seen one of those!

So, where's the difference?

There's probably dozens of differences. People in charge of commissioning such things, the prices of the design elements, the companies involved, the available budgets, time available, internal politics, availability of resources. All sorts of things may or may not have changed or have influenced the decision to buy or not buy elements like this. It could easily have been financial, You don't know, I don't know, but I doubt it's down to an anti-English sentiment ingrained at the BBC.

As an aside, I think this is the first time I've seen someone on here argue against special idents being created - because everything has to be consistent with some past decision probably made by someone else who was in charge at the time.

Obviously not the BBC's doing but the camera angle for the tennis is dreadful.

Quite low because it's an outside court probably. Could do with the score bug being at the bottom of the screen instead of the top.

Yes, you can't even see the far service line as it's in line with the net. Worse height they could have really!

BBC Four still has the calm loop today, meanwhile on numerous BBC Olympic channels, they have a fast paced loop that fits with Rio De Janeiro with a caption saying Coverage continues later today.

Olay!

Wasn't EastEnders on BBC Two for the duration of London 2012 or am I imagining that? I'm sure I remember EastEnders' return-of-Sharon trailers as marking the return of EastEnders to BBC One after the London games were over.

That's right. The only non-Olympic programmes on BBC1 in 2012 were the news, a Grand Prix and Andrew Marr at nine o'clock on the first Sunday.

"Olé!", surely?

Or do you just really "Love The Skin You're In"?! Wink

Not in Portuguese; "¡Olé!" is Spanish.

That's the first time the three note motif has been used on a new ident for a long while, isn't it?

The only thing I can think of which included the three note motif but was non-original of late was the Doctor Who variant of the Hippos ident, which merged into the normal soundtrack part-way through but started very clearly with the three notes (which doesn't seem to have been taken from any other ident or anything), with the TARDIS FX then allowing it to mix to the normal soundtrack of the ident.

At least this time around we've been spared the ridiculous 60 seconds News mandated by the Trust for 2012 coverage on BBC THREE. BBC FOUR has been much better without that crazy interruption which we endured four years ago.

You say that but on the other thread somebody said the BBC were producing the feed for OBS.
