Lets just hope that the regions forget to start using it again when Acrobats is brought back into service. Then we might get a bit of variety into the news.

No chance of Variety. It will just be overkill of Tai-Chi instead.

And another decent ident is ruined.

Not sure about the ident having been withdrawn completely. AFAIK, a close friend of one of the artistes featured in the ident has died.

The ident has been withdrawn temporarily.

Mike is correct. The artists featured in the ident were close colleagues of the performer who died yesterday in Norfolk. It was decided around mid-morning today that the use of the symbol is deemed inappropriate in the circumstances. I imagine it will return in the next couple of weeks.

As for some reactions. It would be only courtesy to withdraw an ident or ad if someone in it was to be killed/die suddenly.

Perhaps this isn't the place but for any channel using people idents there was always the possibility this might happen. That and the issue of the idents dating quickly. But then, what would have happened if there was a tragic balloon accident during that era - would they have withdrawn the whole set?

I was thinking about all those spoof ones where the balloon flew into things. You wouldn't have seen those after Sept 11 would you? It certainly is not unique to people idents/

The Tai Chi ident was used just before Spooks on BBC One Scotland. The Announcer just made a mistake as well!

She said Ruby Max... (paused and started to laugh), Wax Meets later on BBC One Scotland but first...

Oh how we love LIVE continuity, you don't get that with Minidisc!!

How very tragic. Totally appropriate of the BBC I think.

But if Acrobats is going forever, why does Ballet have to still be sidelined? Nothing says it HAS to be kept for whatever reasons its kept for. Do ITV1

Carlton's old 'sunset' heart ident was classed as a 'sombre' ident and as such was rarely seen. HTV Wales used this to great effect by dragging it out for their final HTV-branded link (I don't think HTV West did though) - to push that as being a sad occasion too.

Nice to hear that Acrobats hasn't gone forever.

Central also used the sombre sunset ident for the last ever local link in which Ted May told us how he'd announced for so many years in the "Central region" - no mention of Carlton at all. Good old Ted never let us down.

Although, I must say...I'm still not absolutely sure why the BBC has pulled acrobats? Can anyone explain to me exactly why (and don't just say read the last few pages!!)

Did this acrobat have any links at all with Sheffield? I remember clearly that Look North reported on this a couple of weeks after the new set of BBC idents launched, as the group of acrobats that were used for the ident were based in Sheffield. A reporter interviewed the acrobats involved, but I cannot remember the acrobats' names.

Does this information shed any new light on the situation?

I refer the previous two posters to the information at the top of this page Laughing
