DAS this is a forum for open discussion, so people can discuss their viewpoint just as you can. It would seem from other topics (BBC Two Ident & Subtitling) that you have a real problem with listening to other viewpoints.

I enjoy discussion. But when people make irrelvant, illogical and quite ridiculous points simply to get reaction, I don't suffer them gladly. You may also notice that where I reply to select topics, Digifiend has a presence virtually everywhere. If you read the posts I have made in this topic, I have given people a chance to respond up to the point where Digifiend became ridiculous and I made my frustration with him alone clear.

As for BBC TWO ident and subitling, please show me where I have been unreasonable. I made one post in response to your view:

DAS, apparently having a problem listening to viewpoints, posted:
I wouldn't overexaggerate the importance of the Subtitles caption. Deaf viewers may rely on the subtitles themselves, but they don't rely on the preceeding caption - hence Channel 4 dropping the caption altogether.

That is me responding to your viewpoint by expressing my own. What's wrong with that? The whole point of a forum is to question other people's views - otherwise we'd all be saying "Ho hum, you're soooo right".

I think the use of the word Cretin shows this very clearly. Perhaps you should only comment if you have something worthwhile to add to the discussion, I am sick and tired of seeing your rude comments and remarks.

Of course, I go round calling everyone a cretin, don't I? I have a habit of posting rude comments and remarks. I can't help but feel you're generalising somewhat. I thought Digifiend's comments were flippant and irrelevant with regards to the (serious) subject matter. And all of a sudden, I'm some sort of brute. I wonder if I ignored your topic about BBC TWO Subtitles captions you'd think the same thing?

Please reply by PM as opposed to here, because I cannot stand it when people take their personal arguments into threads... and I don't want to be guilty of that myself.

Actually, there's something rather odd about all this. Asa, are you sure your source was reputable?
You have a point there, someone could've been confused about Eva.

erm who said that eva was in the ident?
By confused, I meant maybe someone thought the girl in the ident had died, assuming that it was Eva, even if it wasn't! Like someone already said, the pics of Eva seem to show her performing the same act as appears in the ident.

It is strange that there is no mention of it on BBCi and that the ident is still on the website.

Tai Chi just now into national news...

They often use Tai Chi or Capoeira into daytime bulletins now anyway. We shall see what happens at six... (personally, I'd like a clock! Bah, no chance...)

The website would probably be the last thing to be changed.

Anyway there is no mention of the ident on BBCi, but there is an article about Eva Garcia's death but no mention of the BBC on it.

Strange......

I dunno if my head has made this up recently or whether I did actually read/hear it. Did the BBC not have a report which mentioned Eva Garcia's name during the age of rebrand.

Assuming Eva Garcia was featured in the ident in question...

I wonder how it would have become known to the BBC that someone featured in an ident had been killed. Surely it wasn't the case that having heard the news of the acrobat's death, somebody from the BBC checked to see whether they were in the ident - after all, how many acrobats are there in the UK?!

Do the BBC store contact details of the people featured in its idents? This may be plausible, but once again, you wouldn't dig them out to check that Eva Garcia was on the list. Or would you?

Or maybe the BBC were contacted by the victim's family to tell them? This seems more likely... but then again, would the BBC be high on the list of priorities for the family?

I'm intrigued...

Wouldn't it be more likely that Lambie Nairn was told and they've contacted the BBC and the BBC would have made the decision.

It would be more likely that Lambie Nairn had the details of those in the idents;.

Don't bother searching MSN for "Eva Garcia" - all I found was a couple of articles about her death, a namesake uni student's homepage, and a load of Spanish stuff. I was looking for the BBC report you mentioned. Maybe it's still on BBCi, but it'll be hard to find.

I suppose so. But who would think "Let's call Lambie Nairn"? Does anyone know if it's routine practice to record the names of people featured in idents?

It would be surely, these people need paying so there likely to be on record somewhere.

I doubt someone contacted Lambie Nairn, someone at their offices probably heard it and it's just developed.

That is of course if it even was this lady.
