I was watching BBC One just before East Midalnds Today at 6.30pm tonight (Thursday 20th January) and noticed a cock-up with the idents. At first the played the 'Skateborders' Ident and annonced that ''Now on BBC One BBC London News with Emily Maitlis'' then it was abruptly cut and they played the 'skateborders' Ident again with the 'BBC One East Midalnds' logo. Did anybody else notice this?

That is not a BBC Ident cock-up, that is BBC East Midlands not opting in time from London.

Regions opting late seems to happen fairly regularly these days Sad

late opts are really not anything new. bbc english regions simply replace the feed from london at 6.30. if theyre seconds out, then unsurprisingly you will see london.

It was quite funny actually, when the wrong Ident was shown, I heard someone groan very loudly. Laughing .

And a nice little cock up on BBC One tonight just before Ten. Obviously meant to have been a Question Time promo but we got an apology caption, announcer apology and then the promo starting from what looked like a freeze to me. Crash out of the end to get the ident in before Ten.

Which then caught the regions off guard meaning the BBC Yorkshire ident was played late and cut off the opening second of the news

It happened at the end of North West Tonight, the audio ended too early, so Gordon was cut off mid sentence, so you heard about one second of Emily Matlis and the closing theme, though I don't think many will have noticed as North West Tonight and BBC London News have the same music.

Though late opting does happen every now and again, I've even seen a short edition of NWT opt into the feed about a minute after the regional news has started, though the presenter didn't realise it or anything, but I think that was more of a Digital fault.

Surely it's time for the BBC to provide a clean feed to the regions so we stop getting a flash of BBC London at every other network junction. I doubt it would be that difficult or expensive to provide, and it'd solve an age-old problem.

If the opts are still handled manually then surely we'd end up seeing VT clocks and black screens instead of the London feed?

once we had a whole london breakfast news. In the next half hour bulletin, no mention was made.

It WOULD be expensive, as it would have to be supplied in addition to the feed that is already there, which is the network feed sent on out to the transmitters.

Also, what would it be "clean" of? It'd still need to have the network promotions on it. And the programme. So really you're asking for a feed of network minus the symbols and opts. Such a thing does not exist, nor would it be easy to create.
