Do you happen to know anything of the rumour that News would have to run two graphics systems if it were to originate in HD as the downsampling would mush them up?

Doesn't seem to cause Reporting Scotland a problem... all of their graphics are originated in HD

Well we'll have to wait until they switch off the BBC One SD playout area and all SD content for SD viewers has been up- and then down-converted en-route, and whether HD viewers see HD gfx, to see?

[HD] Tagging on BBC ONE HD EPG

Noticed that the [HD] tagging promised by Danielle Nagler has appeared on BBC ONE HD entries in the Freeview EPG.

Upscaling can now be readily identified at last.

Good News.

Do any of the platforms show a 5.1 audio tag? I assume the Doctor Who Christmas Special will be in 5.1 like the last series, but there's nothing to indicate that on Freesat.

On a slightly related note, has anyone else noticed some garbled audio during the first few minutes of Prince Caspian on BBC One HD?

Sky does have a 'DD' tag to signal Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, which isn't showing up on tomorrow's Doctor Who.

Does the tag show on Monday's repeat on BBC (not One) HD? That's showing as 5.1 on Digiguide, but the main showing tomorrow isn't.

Looks like there are no tags for 5.1 at all on Freesat - bit of a shame cos it would be nice to know when it's worth me turning on the receiver.

That might have been the source of the audio trouble I heard at the start of Prince Caspian - it was passed through my telly and it doesn't seem to like 5.1 coming off the BBC channels. That doesn't explain the echo on the VO during the credits though...

The repeat on BBC HD does indeed have the DD tag, so I would be intrigued to know if there's an issue tagging 5.1 shows on BBC One or if it is not transmitting any 5.1 content (which would surprise me).

They transmitted this year's Doctor Who with the DOG last year it wasn't there when it was on BBC HD last year, I could see minor pixellation on yesterday's episode on fast moving scenes, not good BBC, not good!

It was in 5.1, in case anyone's still wondering (which I doubt).

Upstairs Downstairs was in DD5.1 but it wasn't shown on the Sky EPG.

Very little 5.1 on BBC HD's drama. Interestingly BBC Wales seem to do it, Doctor Who, Torchwood and now Upstairs Downstairs.

You're missing the point I think.

The potential issue with BBC News is that they are currently SD NOT HD. When BBC One SD playout closes, all SD sources on BBC One will be upconverted to HD, and then downconverted to SD again. This double conversion is not good for graphics.

Reporting Scotland (and other HD originated shows) only have a downconversion. It's the up- followed by down-conversion that is the potential issue for SD shows on BBC One SD once everything has to go via HD.

AIUI there is a suggestion that some News graphics will switch to HD, and be overlaid over a clean SD feed that is already upscaled (so the background is SD upconverted, but the graphics overlaid are HD, meaning the foreground graphics are only converted once)

I know it's not related but can someone advise why on Freeview HD, ITV1 for me is the London version and not the Midlands? Have tried looking on the internet, but can't find any reason.
