Why not just come out with it, and say you would like a job in Broadcast Centre, David, like some of the rest of us!
I'd like to see BBC One HD show all the regions and nations in a grid just for the sake of it. I'm not sure what would happen to the audio if they did this though.

They already have them in a grid on the playout monitoring room, whether they can switch that to air I don't know.

Did anyone notice that the end of The One Show tonight briefly switched from the clean HD to an SD upconversion during the close and then switched back again? The SD upconvert was a bit narrower, a bit horizontally squished, compared to the HD version. (It looked like a 720 vs 702 thing)

Is it just me or is the whole region thing a bit of a non-issue? If people go back to SD and stay there that's hardly that much of a problem considering most people with HD tellys are still using DVD players plugged in via SCART and Sky boxes pumping out SD 4:3 images.
The HD die hards will hop around, those who don't care wont care.

It is interesting that they're dealing with it differently at different times. Presumably the Breakfast, 1330, 1500, 2000 and 2225 opts are considered short enough to sit on the caption (which is actually rather nicely animated with audio too, not half as boring as a still slide). But half an hour is just too long so it gets a montage of clips for 20 minutes of that slot. Meanwhile apparently it's still OK to put out London news on BBC News Channel during Breakfast but not on BBC One?
Monday's listings still have Inside Out South in them, so unless this is an error perhaps non-news programming has a different policy, and they'll go around the regions? (particularly as Inside Out frequently does compilation shows from around the country anyway)

It's not listed on BBC One HD as being a 'native HD' broadcast.
Will Casualty be in HD this Saturday?

At 18:30 at least they played out the programme that was on BBC One SD with the caption only on during the regional news.
How did BBC One HD handle the short regional bulletins at around 13:30 and 18:30 today? Did the countdown at 13:30 workout correctly? Was the whole slot including the filler programmes covered up by the caption?

I thought Casualty moved to HD when it moves from Bristol to Cardiff.

I don't think so - I think they're still producing in SD.
Currently if the show wasn't shown also on BBC HD prior to BBC One HD launching, then it is likely to have been made in SD and will thus be upconverted on BBC One HD.
This will change over time - but at the moment it's a good rule of thumb.
Shows that were commissioned in HD prior to BBC One HD launching will also have been shown on BBC HD (which only airs HD shows) New series launching on BBC One HD may well be HD (though the "assume you have to deliver in HD" commissioning rules kick in next financial year - when SD should be an exception and HD the rule. However this won't mean that long running series - particularly those made by indies - have to switch instantly)
I think Casualty will be relocating to the new drama centre being built by BBC Wales - and I suspect will go HD when it relocates from Bristol. Holby - made at Elstree - is already HD, and EastEnders switches to HD at Christmas.
Long running indie commissions - Spooks, Merlin etc. - are often still currently SD, it will be interesting to see if they switch to HD if/when they appear next year.
