I suspect that caption is on the sustaining feed of BBC1, it will be interesting to see if it appears on the SD version of BBC1 when a region fails to opt out,
Why not just play a promo out as the sustaining SD feed, and as a filler for HD. Kill two birds. . .
Maybe they are... we won't find out until it happens

Maybe, but that the way that the announcer gets put to air is very different to the programmes/trails/promos. BBC London have apparently started to be required to opt out for their bulletins again - and there's been some quite noticable crashes from them to network at the opt back point recently which would suggest this has happened
If it were on the sustaining feed then the CA wouldn't have got cut off like he did in the video above.

I guess this isn't helped by them being in a temporary studio whilst the BH power testing etc. is taking place.

I noticed they introduced the "Ten O'Clock News" (as the continuity announcer named it) as on BBC One and BBC One HD. Slightly misleading considering it's upscaled.
Not really - it is on BBC One and BBC One HD. It may not be in HD - but it is on the BBC One HD channel. I think the BBC have taken the view that there are currently two channels - BBC One and BBC One HD - and you tag shows as being on both of them - irrespective of whether they are in SD or HD. Similarly trails now have the animating HD superscript bug that animates on and animates off.

Although obvious, it does seem quite deceptive to have an HD logo on during a programme when it isn't.

Yes, but many folk will assume it's in HD, because it's on BBC 1 HD. The Beeb should adopt ITV's policy in my opinion.

Remember that the Broadcast Centre apps room has the equipment for all their clients - so as well as BBC playout, there's kit there for UKTV, BBC Worldwide, Channel 4, and more. It's generally arranged so that the kit for each playout area is directly below it, to minimise the amount of cabling required.
It is huge, though. I can't remember how many football pitches it measures, though it's certainly at least one.
(It's also one of the tidier apps rooms I've visited - though the back of those HD bays definitely don't look like they've been plugged together by a wireman.)

Loved the behind the scenes video.
I always love to see behind the scenes stuff regarding TV. Especially when she went downstairs where all the computers, processors, servers etc are, can't believe how much equipment they have!!!

Nope- the sustaining feed is still BBC London, except on weekdays during the 1/6/10, when London opt out and the sustaining feed is the news channel.

Reminds me of when BBC One Scotland couldn't show football on digital services due to rights issues, but that had an interesting music piece on it if I remember!

Pretty much what we'd have expected for the 8pm news update. I wonder if this particular 'regional' segment will eventually get replaced with another trailer as it seems like the sort of convenient gap they'd not miss!

That's a very misleading way of doing things, although I imagine the double name checking for all programmes is only while the channel is new to raise awareness of it.

Yes, the design of it is clever and very flexible - it means they can launch new services much quicker than they used to be able to at TV Centre.
It's worth remembering that control rooms, galleries and operational areas have very little equipment in them - it's all in the apps rooms, the only exceptions are things like VT machines.

Tut tut at all this upscaled output continuing to go out with an HD dog on it. How very misleading.
