Also the phrasing of the "next" announcement implied that the Lotto draw was in HD when it isn't.

I'm going to get tired of the phrase "on BBC One and BBC One HD" pretty quickly. I wish they'd just take Sky's approach and say "BBC One HD" when the programme is in HD, and just "BBC One" otherwise.

That would make a lot more sense. It is very deceptive for the viewer, definitely.

I think they are just trying to plug the channel on its first night, I am sure after a few complaints to Points of View it will soon change, and they will just say it on HD programming.

And...well... some of the countdown (unless anyone really wants to sit for 7 minutes of it!) for those not graced with the chance to see this 'visual glory'. Now all they need to do is put the news countdown music in the background of it and we'll be all sorted! Laughing

Am I just being dense here, or not properly following the thread, but why can't they just put out the London news ?

I think it's a complaints avoidance measure.

I think I'd rather have BBC London News than a caption. Certainly less annoying if you want to make button 1 BBC 1hd on your freeview HD tv.

I'm sure we can cope when the local news comes on and think "oooo Streatham, I don't live near there" and retune to out regional BBC1.

The 8pm bulletin just looked stupid with the caption (and they crashed it) maybe they could just do sports and national weather with the national presenter?

Well they can't cope with swopping the likes of Wimbledon between 1 & 2, to transmit the regional news as scheduled, so I suspect it'll be beyond some peoples capabillity to swop back & forth between HD & SD.

Remember the 'Red Button Regional News'? Eventually I gave up & stuck with analogue for Midlands Today until the regions came on SKY.

Wonder how many people might think 'Sod it' & leave it on SD for the regional news?

I have enough trouble trying to train the rest of my family to put it on the HD version of a channel as it is! (Especially as I'm paying a tenner for the privillege!)

Manys the time ITV HD & BBC HD have been taping at the same time(for example) on SKY & my 75 year old mum sticks it on ITV SD!

'You now have a Channel Clash!'

Factor in my sister taping her ghostie crap off Living etc at odd times & god almighty a three way clash!

(Freeview for the 3rd programme at that point!)

Thank god I've got my own SKY Plus upstairs too!

Why make it any different for people in London?

As ITV1 HD used to put a caption on telling viewers to switch to ITV1 for their regional news, whether you were watching London HD or Granada HD, then surely it wouldn't hurt the BBC to do so? Granted I could understand at the 8pm News update it makes sense to throw a caption up, but for half an hour at 6.30pm every weekday? It just doesn't seem right to me.

I'm surprised they haven't simply opted for BBC ONE HD Preview (alá BBC HD Preview) whilst the Regional News is on air, especially between 6.30 and 7pm, it just seems daft to me.

I didn't get chance to see the channel until half way through The Apprentice (yawn) but I'm very glad to see the DOG has been reduced, it looks far better.

According to the BBC One HD post on the TV blog, they will be...

broadcasting a still slide during the news slots for the Nations and Regions (18.30 is the only exception, when the slide will be followed by some short excerpts from programmes)

So it sounds like they will have some sort of preview loop.
