This doesn't really capture how long it took for BBC One to notice the feed had gone. That frozen picture of the golf ball in the air was on screen for what seemed like ages.

It's quite unusual for a picture to just freeze like that when something goes wrong, normally you'd get a black screen or a flash or something which is very easy to spot.

It's probably especially tricky with golf coverage as it does usually have longish shots of golf balls in mid-air with no visual reference to it moving, I'm not surprised that it took a while to notice it

You are looking at this with technical eyes. You also need to look at it with political eyes. Will Sky use it as an opertunity to bash the BBC?

No it happens to everyone, it's just one of those things

Funnily enough I was in the Mailbox when this happened, all the MT Newsroom Plasma's showed it.

The first part of the golf is now on IPlayer...

at the time of writing part 2 is 'coming soon'...

I wonder if they will get the missing parts of the programme for part 2.

Anyway, here is my capture of the BBC One fun this afternoon including the full 1 minute+ of frozen ball action...

Sorry for the poor quality, I am not made of bandwidth.

You don't hear much of the music due to the announcer's reminders every 20 seconds!

Quite; appallingly handled:-

Took far too long to even notice the fault. (What did the three BBC nations do BTW ?)

Why on earth use ident music, just bung a CD of library music on. I suppose it's all the branding freaks at work again.

Do they really think every viewer has an attention span of 20 seconds, the voice overs were just a barrage of local radio style verbal diarrhea (stating the bloody obvious at that).

Scotland stayed with network, announcer and all.

How exciting.

I don't like the music either. They ought to commission an extended 3 minute version of one of the idents and just use that.

It is my understanding that they don't have CD/minidisc players in the network continuity suites any more. I believe since the move of continuity from Television Centre to the Red Bee Broadcast Centre that the breakdown music now comes off a server (at least the music accompanying Pages from Ceefax broadcasts does), whether the ident snippet music as used in today's breakdown is on the same server I don't know.

Part 2 is now up with fault included.

Thanks for the upload.

I agree with Markymark - was it really necessary to have that many announcements? It was clear on screen that a there was a fault (unless it's now vital to keep short memory span deaf viewers in the loop)

Using the badly edited ident music is far more jarring than just using a library piece (whether on CD or server!) so it would be nice if someone had a rethink of that. Surely a couple of the composers could have, or maybe have done, a full 3min version they could use?
