BBC One Golf Breakdown, 23/05/09

Just flicked on to BBC One at 4.56pm and Peter Sissons was 'welcoming BBC One viewers to the news channel'. Didn't catch the announcement leading into this. He immediately threw to the weather.

Not sure whats happened to the golf?

Massive breakdown there, due to power being lost at the Golf PGA Championship. However, we got to hear the new breakdown CD featuring the remixed ident themes, before simulcasting with the BBC News Channel.

I'll get a video up in a few minutes.

How unusual for BBC One to throw to the News Channel due to a breakdown in a programme.

The breakdown didn't sound too great since the new ident themes have fairly rough endings, either stopping dead or quickly fading out. And since they have short durations, they don't seem a great choice for playing out one after the other. A better option would be to have an extended theme like they used to have.

Back with the golf now, apparently both generators (main and back-up) packed up.

Odd few minutes.

The music did sound rather weird. Especially the dogs one - without visuals it sounded weird.

I suspect that most weeks they'd have put Final Score, which would be on the red button, on instead.

I just caught this... I switched on just as they crossed to the News Channel, I thought the Queen had popped her clogs (particularly with Sissons presenting!)

I too thought it was a very strange thing to use the BBC News Channel as a filler... wonder what made the Network director decide to put that on?

Did anyone catch what happened on BBC Red Button coverage (if there is any of the golf?)

It was also a nasty crash back into the golf, with gary in mid conversation with the director... they could at least have cut back to the apology caption or an ident to lead back to the golf...

That never even crossed my mind. Ehem.
