bbc one have just lost coverage of the derby as the feed seemed to cut to a random studio being set up with production staff walking around. didn't recognise the studio though

looks as though they only booked the line till 17.05. network were very quick to cut to a caption and music and issue an apology

They made a bit of a hash of things really - the Derby should never of been scheduled to finish at 4.40, that's not nearly enough time. Then towards the end they were just filling because BBC1 don't have many filler programmes these days. They do have Animal Park though - which comes in lots of different lengths, 20 minutes, 15 minutes etc so that should have been used after the news.

Anyway BBC1 have gone back to some more old style music for their breaks in transmission which is nice to see. Very Happy

I think the studio that was cut to may have been Strictly Dance Fever. Don't suppose anyone has a video of it?

It looked like the Strictly Dance Fever studio to me.

Anyone know why it fell back to that? I would have expected some kind of caption straight away.

Just how do you manage to make a cock up like that, how come we got a shot of the SDF studio?

presumably the line to pres was only booked till 5.05, given that the programme was due to end at 4.40?

Would the OB have gone directly to pres or would TC5 have been handling it?

It wouldn't have 'fallen back', it's just a switch to the wrong thing

This could have been due to any number of things - the pictures from Epsom would have gone to a control room at TV Centre then into the sports studio, then back to the conrtol room where and down one of the circuits to the broadcast centre down the road where BBC1 comes from.

The switch could have been an engineer at either TVC or the BC changing the line over accidently or it could have been the network director setting up for SDF and accidently getting it onto air

It all depends on the reaction time of the director, but in the first instance they were probably trying to get the pictures back before going into breakdown

It looks to me that someone forgot to change the playout system and this would have caused what would have been a live promo to fail and causing this break down.

The music heard over the apology caption must've been from the BBC2 Ceefax server, as its one of the so called "link" tracks they use every day (i think it's called Great Ocean Road - or Atlantic Archipelago, I can't remember which!).

It makes a nice change from that 30 second looped daytime music though - and whichever of the two tracks it was, it seemed rather appropriate, as there was a horse running in the Derby called "Atlantic Waves"!

Another problem there on BBC after National Lottery Jet Set, the promo for the Strictly Dance Fever Final appeared and the sound seemed to be linking back to the Jet Set studio.
