Just noticed the Help section on BBCi text on DSAT still has an explanation of how to choose your regional news at 6.30 via the red button.

Someone should have told 'em!

Perhaps this should change to "Other BBC regions are available from channel 9xx"?

It is important to remember that FTA viewers with Sky boxes but no viewing card (and existing FTV viewers with dead series 1 cards after August?) will get BBC One London on 101 wherever they are in the UK - so there is a justification for not duplicating BBC London's terrestrial pres on satellite and instead providing a guiding announcement steering people to the 900s?

Of course it will also be heard on the rare occasions where a region doesn't opt out. The anno used to be 'press TV and button 1' on digital and 'sorry we cannot bring you....' on analogue.

A combination of both would be applicable, but then neither make any sense to the london based satellite viewer

Yep - it is a pity that the analogue/digital split is no longer possible. I guess the DSat / Terrestrial split needs to continue - an anno like "Now on BBC One, BBC London News. Satellite viewers can find other local programmes from channel 9xx"

Not true. Tyne Tees and Border "massively outperform" the BBC in terms of audience figures. This may be true in other regions but not in the north east and Cumbria...sorry Mr Griffee....get your facts right!

That's taking all the programmes as a whole, i.e. all the ITV programmes added together versus all the BBC ones. This puts it on a reasonable comparison with networked programmes such as the news.

The official line is (and has been said for a long while now) that except in 1 area BBC regional programmes beat their ITV equivalents. Not sure if this includes the new South East region though.

Official line? Never heard that myself.
I do know thought that the powers that be at BBC Newcastle have been told to get the viewing figures up or else!

Merdian and BBC South East are about neck and neck last time I saw figures.

I think the biggest difference between the BBC and ITV region-wise is the Look East/Anglia area.... I can only imagine that Harry and Christa, along with Peter and Helen in my (analogue) region are slaughtering Calendar....

Calendar (generally speaking)gets about 19/20 per cent with Look North on about 33/34. The biggest gap is Anglia/Look East with a 19/40 per cent split in the BBCs favour.

Is that in the Leeds (Emley) area or the Hull (Belmont) area? We have two seperate 18:30 shows....

Just to let you know here's a list of the channel numbers and the regional variations on sky: BBC Sky Digital Region List

ITV's regional news would probably get better viewing figures if they put sub-regions on satellite. The East Midlands is a big area and they're missing out on potential ad-revenue by only showing the West Midlands version. In the future everyone should get their correct BBC region on 101, but many will get the wrong ITV region on 103. ITV have to catch up.

The only reason all the regions were put onto Sky was because of advertising revenue. If the extra advertising revenue that came in from putting a sub-region on the satellite outwayed the costs of putting it there it would.

The diffrences in adverts between the 3 Central regions is very small.

I am glad that the BBC regions are now on the EPG as it's much easier to change between them. It's nice to be able to catchup with what's going on (or not as the case may be) in the Hull region and also being able to see what Peter Levy is up to.
