I can't see the point of it all. I don't think these regions will last the test of time in their current state. I expect several will be amalgamated in the next couple of years.

Don't agree, sorry. With ITV1 becoming less regionalised I'm pretty sure the BBC is going to use it's commitment to regions and sub-regions as a big part of it's argument for the continuation of the licence fee etc. The launch of all the English Regions on DSAT will probably be used as a major "selling point" in arguing the BBC's raison d'etre. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if more sub-regions don't apprear in the coming years.

There's bound to be teething problems at first with people getting what they perceive as the 'wrong' region. Mind you, I can't understand why people in Nottingham are getting W Mids rather than E Mids, or why someone in Oxford isn't getting BBC1 Oxford.

As for offering English local radio stations on DSAT, that's probably a long way off and tecnically quite expensive I should imagine. I don't think it's been mentioned as a long-term plan by the beeb has it? National BBC radio stations are available, but no English stations other than Network Radio.

Patience everyone, patience !

You seem to have a problem.
It's the principal. I shouldn't have to dial 950 instead of 101.
j2k: The 2nd comment is wrong otherwise it would have been the same for me as well.

It is very simple: three buttons. 9 5 0.
This is the same as 1 0 1.

I don't have a Mercedes-Benz, now that's the kind of thing i worry about, along with world poverty and oppression plus the lack of Central South on my mobile phone.

The word is principle in this case by the way. There is no charge. Now please go and talk to someone on the bus.

1, Its a shame people are complaining about getting the wrong Midlands region, well what’s new? You've been getting the wrong region on Sky for the past how ever many years BBC London has been on 101. At least getting East M instead of West M (or WM instead of EM) is still closer to home than bloody BBC LDN NEWS on 101. Like the BBC have said, it will be sorted out, so its not like you will be stuck for life with this Huge upset.

2, Anyway, talking of BBC London, Its not LDN on 944 (or whatever number) is it?? Its Network just showing LDN news as they have nothing else to show. Is there any chance of the real LDN coming or are BBC One LDN idents ONLY on Analogue London now?

3, Why do none of the regions have ceefax when you press the teletext key on your Normal TV remote, but when you press it on BBC One Network (Now called BBC 1London) it works saying that its now BBCi on DSAT. So does that mean that the 888 subs are only on 944 and not 101? Do the digital subs work then??

You will only see the London promos and continuity if you are watching on analogue. This has always been the case and presumeably will still be the case. You're not missing much!

How many more times. I know E Mids is availible on 950. I just presumed I would get it on 101. I am pleased the regions are on digital, i did not complain about that. In fact, the only thing i did complain about was getting Birmingham news rather than Nottingham on 101. I was led to beleive (by the BBC) that I would get my region on 101 and i was surprised and rather annoyed this morning when it said BBC W Mids. It gets quite annoying when both ITV1 and BBC 1 have gone 'regional', yet where i live both of these channels provide me with the wrong region.
I hope i have clarified things from my position - and hope i haven't made any enemies on here!

None at all.

I just don't see the point in you moaning when ... a, you get the region and b, there are really more important things to worry about than which combination of buttons you should press to get regional BBC1 news! It'll be sorted in due course - just have some patience Smile

Which on DSAT you have to go into a menu and turn on and off - not quite the same as the easy to access 888 subtitles.

Hehe - well, you'll get there eventually ... just be calm for now. Breathe in ... and out ...

If you're someone who requires subtitles for one programme you're likely to require them for all, so a permenant setting will be more convenient for the majority of users of subtitles.
