BBC ONE English Regions on DSAT

Using an unaltered version of ITV1's database is just plain dumb. This means NOBODY in the East Midlands will receive BBC1 East Midlands on channel 101.
Surely the BBC could have realised that ITV1 Central East isn't broadcast on satellite and quickly added the major East Midlands postcodes so that BBC1 East Midlands viewers can see their channel on 101, no?

I'm afraid its a case of adding the right region to your favourites list for now. There will be a "Region Resort" sometime in 2004 when the technology will be in place so everyone can get the right region.

It isn't the BBC though is it??? It is Sky who are performing the postcode mapping FOR the BBC.

The ITV1 database took months and months to generate AIUI - and the BBC only reached a deal with Sky about regional mapping very recently (end of May or June?) so neither party has had time to create a second database.

Also the Sky regional mapping system was set up for the ITV 16 feed system, not the greater number of BBC 1 regions, and need to make more sub-regions to cater for the combined BBC / ITV regions (especially in areas where the two are different) which means creating more sub-sets of viewing cards.

Then why haven't the BBC said this before? They should have publicised the fact that not all BBC Regions will be mapped to 101 straight away.

But just to confuse you, we're now going to tell you that you might not get your correct region on 101 ... A great way to water down the message.

It's better than people thinking "Ah, BBC 1 has regional news on Sky now - but they still don't show my region. I'll just have to keep pressing tv then 1 at 6 o'clock like i do now"
Be honest - how many people go down past 101 on Sky? Especially the over 40's!

On 101, I've been given BBC 1 East (E), yet the ITV1 region on 103 is ITV1 London. Surely if the BBC are using an altered ITV map, I would have got BBC 1 London?

To be honest, I go "down past 101", which I assume is your convoluted way of saying "up above 900", many times a day, usually to go to 961, but also to others.

My fortieth birthday is now a long forgotten memory.

Having the regions in the 900s highlights the problem of not being able to move backwards through your favourite channels. You listening Sky?!

im at a miss as to why they havent put the regional radio stations on too!!

I'm sorry if I've come across in an ungrateful way. It's just I was expecting East Mids on my 101 today. I thought it'd all be done and dusted FOR today. I didn't realise I had to wait for ages to actually get my own region! I apologize - but I am still a bit miffed!

It's not a situation unique to the East Midlands - viewers who should be getting BBC ONE East Yorkshire and Linconshire will instead get BBC ONE Yorkshire and North Midlands on 101 - because those two regions are covered by just one by ITV on DSAT. Likewise with BBC ONE Oxford I'd imagine.

When a new postcode database is created to map BBC regions to correct postcodes, it all should be sorted.

As you may be aware (or not), here in the Wrexham area (which is obviously in Wales Very Happy and the largest population area in North Wales), it's the other way around i.e correct BBC channels on 101 and 102, S4C on 104, yet WRONG ITV (Granada) on 103. Evil or Very Mad
