So, after all this waiting, has anyone from England watched the Nations output yet? Some comments would be nice.

Saw Reporting Scotland tonight, and yep, it's good!! I like the way that it's different to the English regional studios by retaining the mustard yellow colour scheme, the different music and the placenames opening titles. It's clear it's still BBC but it retains some independence of image.

I think, just as was said in the Wales thread, that they must have been aware they went national tonight - though unofficially of course. They fluffed lines and looked nervous. Jackie Bird when on top form is brilliant. Love her to bits.

Is it BBC ONE London or is it the sustaining feed version? By that I mean will it have an LDN red box on the ident into the news?

At the moment it is the network version, the same as it always has been.

When the regions start I ssupect it will be a network version with LDN idents, just like in the very old days. But no-one really knows.... excpet those at the BBC who do!

Go on, give Wales Today a try tonight Katherine. You've had NI and Scotland, it's time for you to go to Cardiff. It'll be a little short on the banter, being one presenter and all, but there's always the jokes with Derek [who you'll of course love -- everyone does], and you can marvel at the biggest and best studio in the land, and *no* mustard in sight, ugh. But many dragons.

Do let us know what you think anyway. BBC Wales' CAs are very friendly too. And of course a couple of them sometimes pop on here.

I think Jackie comes across as a nice lady too, but I've seen very little of her, will see if I catch her next week. I must say I don't like your studio at all, the sparseness doesn't suit a nation, and the small screens, mustard.. bad. And what's with the dockyard backdrop? I know WT has a building site by the river and church, but you can't see it!

Only Derek was nervous, as you say, but that's nothing out of the ordinary. He more than makes up for it. Your opinion of any Welsh output would be valued likewise, it's not only England that get to see the nations, there's also some cross nation-al viewing to be had!

Anyway, that is all.

Yes, our studio is quite bad. The backdrop is of the River Clyde leading to the City Centre. Things looked a little better before they went with 2 anchors, back then they used sidebars as opposed to those awful plasma screens sitting rather awkwardly at the side. Before the mustard wall it was blue, both of which I have never understood as they really serve no purpose. I think they are holding off on a new studio till they move out of Queen Margaret Drive, Pacific Quay promises a real window on the Clyde so maybe then things may begin to improve.

Indeed TVDragon,

I never really appriecated the quality of Wales Today until I took notice of how appalling HTV News is and the English BBC regions are.

BBC: Shoddy blurred Capoeira idents, 14:9 Cropped programmes etc.

HTV: *Poor* studio, dull presenters, dull music, cheap tabloid journalism full of 'And finally' reports etc.

The set I agree looks distinctly tatty, but is left mustard so it can be lit purple for Newsnight Scotland. The plasmas were brought in, as Martin said, when they double-headed the show. The studio really isnt much bigger than you see on screen, so it does look a bit crammed in.

The view of the Clyde is attrocious but it does hark back to Glasgow's shipbuilding history, yadda yadda. Why they couldnt 'fake it' with an Edinburgh skyline I really dont know. How much nicer would this look?

As for Jackie, keep watching for her. She is a *very* funny lady.

Just an update to say that I can now get all the English regions via the Add Channels (as I couldn't before due to being in Scotland) - I wonder what I will watch first...

Peter Levy and Helen Fospero!! Hull Look North!

Good choice but not as good as South Today with Roger Finn and the oxford opt with Geraldine Peers! Very Happy

Ah yes, but then you won't be able to join in the longest-running regional telly debate: Is Peter Levy's hair natural or not?

Well a quick advert for tonight's Leeds version of Look North for those of you choosing which region to watch, it will feature the acrobats from the BBC1 idents, Greg Dyke and a look at the opening of the new BBC Bradford studios, that's all at 6.30 with Harry and Cathy!

I'm watching the Hull opt of the 1 and are seeing a HUGE BBC ONE East Yorkshire & North Lincolnshire DOG.

There appear to be some strange standards doing the rounds for the region names.

I note that the Cambridge feed is labelled "BBC ONE East (W)", yet Oxford is labelled "BBC ONE Oxford", rather than "BBC ONE South (N)".

You'd think they'd use the same "standard" for all the labels, wouldn't you?

I wonder if they been put up so the right region goes under the reight name on the EPG. Remember at first when we tuned them in some regions were labelled wrongly! i.e NT-EMT when it should have been LN(Newcastle)
