Wales Today starts immediately after the Six O Clock News unlike England where there is a trailer and then a recorded announcement.

And FAR more professional the Welsh system is, as well.

The "Over to our news teams" line immediately followed by "In Wales Today" comes over as a streamlined, integrated bit of programming.

The English system of "Over to our news teams", then a programme end, then at least one trailer, or three in the West if it's a quiet news day, then the ident, then the top of a completely different programme, comes over as sloppy and disjointed.

Not sure what you mean, exactly, there, Avril.

Care to have another try?

Well, so much for regional BBC ONE on SKY, if they go & shove the news on BBC TWO, like they've done tonight !

Don't forget that the regions are only currently TESTING on Astra, Westy.

Once the regions go fully live, after Tuesday 29th July, then I suspect that any decisions to move items between the networks will be made with all that information in mind.

You'd hardly expect the Beeb to make decisions on network swaps TODAY, based on a handful of anoraks who've worked out how to UNOFFICIALLY watch the tests, would you?

Ok, I know the likes of Midlands Today can transmitt on analogue BBC2, but what about the newer regional progs, like Look North Hull. They can't transmit on analogue BBC 2, can they !

Not sure what that's got to do with the price of fish.

Okay, so a few minor regions don't get their regional programme because of a high interest tennis match.

I suspect the twenty-three viewers for the minor regional programme don't count as high as the thousands of Henman fans in the great scheme of things.

Quite reasonable, I should think, even if I HATE tennis, personally.

my sentiments exactly. i cant believe how short sighted some people seem to be. its an extremely MINOR inconvenience that the viewers in the bbc's smallest regions lose their programme or sub-opt on 1 or 2 days per year due to a rather larger audience wishing to watch a rather large *event* on the corporation's flagship network.

why should one of the nation's sporting highlights be shunted to bbc two? i mean the local news hogs the 6.30 slot on bbc one all year - would you rather bbc one moved the local news to late afternoon - or jump around the schedule during wimbledon, *just* to accommodate the viewers in oxfordshire, lincolnshire, channel islands and cambridgeshire? - bearing in mind, doing that would no doubt do viewing figures of local news no good as people lose track of the times day-to-day.

English regions can't opt out on BBC Two DTT (with the exception of LDN who can by virtue of being the sustaining feed, so not really an opt)

I hate tennis too, along with all ball sports - owing to co-ordination problems I can never hit the ball!!

Well done Tim Henman today though - think he'll finally be champ this year?

Have to agree with Nick and tvm. Although I can understand the "anger" from some members on here.

Regional news...I enjoy it...I think it's fab...but I know it's not a ratings winner and at the end of the day. If Henman is playing on BBC1 then most viewers aren't going to want to switch over or anything similar.

OK, so a regional news programme can't opt for one night only - but many programmes know in advance and certainly make preperations. Sometimes just an apology or sometimes a region wide bulletin is made.

The BBC have two channels - and many people complain that the sport could be put on BBC2 - but BBC1 is still the flagship channel and I really think what is a very important event to many, should be put on this channel.

And at the end of the day - as many have said...it's only for a maximum of 2 weeks!! And it's not everyday either!

It's an interesting issue. Logically, surely you could keep everyone happy by having the match switched to BBC Two (available to everyone) and every news regional programme being available on BBC One. People would then find the fact they have to press the up button on their remote the minor inconvenience. The only people interested in having the match on BBC One would then be the controller herself and her ratings. Then again, there is a perfectly good argument too for having a great occasion like Wimbledon and interesting match like one with our player on, on the flagship channel. Hmmm...

I guess today's was a fairly easy decision to make. Not that I care anymore. No clock and I'm not interested. Very Happy
