I think it happened for all regions as we also experienced the problems here in the North-West.

It may have been a timing error in London.

It won't have been timing as such - I expect a trail didn't run due to a technical problem in London (automation, video server, mixer etc). It will have affected all English regions but almost certainly not the Nations.

Was BBC One East the only region to bodge up just before tonights six or was it a network problem? The Tai Chi ident played (network version not regional) for a good 10 seconds Then there was a VO "This is BBC One, now the six oclock news with George Allagiah & Sian Williams" the ident contimued to play for a few seconds before the Acrobats ident started (again it was a network ident, not regional) and a second VO "Now on BBC One the six o'clock news" Then the screen went black for a second, then the news started.

indeed - it was very odd. tai chi played twice - then acrobats - then capoera.

heres the video for anyone interested

Ah Midlands obviously finally opted out, East didn't opt at all. We just got a longer version of Acrobats than Midlands.

I'd imagine that some regions opted at ten seconds to six, and that others were waiting for the Network Director to tell them to opt out, which probably didn't happen.

Ha Ha, the network director was probably saying something a little blue instead of telling the regions to opt. Laughing

To be fair, the network director did... at 10 seconds to 6... tell the regions to opt. Given the mess that the automation was inflicting on him I think he was right to wait until the proper time to call the opt, rather than trying to opt them out cleanly. The junction already looked a mess, no need to confuss the regions further.

Indeed - I was only going on the video posted by tvmercia (who seems to be constantly logging the output Smile).

In circumstances like this of course the main thing is to get the programme on air, preferably on time.

Having watched the video again, I think the Tai Chi symbol may have been running on a loop which the automation automatically cut to when the trail didn't cue/run?

I amazed we did not end up with a black hole of nothingness, 3 symbols in a row is better... I suppose Shocked

At the least the News was in as a fixed event and we did not get George and Sian picking their noses.

So is there not a big "it's gone titsup" button that puts an apology caption to air? I'd have thought a simple two channel mixer (operated by the announcer to let the director get on with fixing the bigger problem) to select between normal output and caption would be a straightforward thing to set up?

Does the announcer still look after music during breakdowns? Or even fading up their own mic?
