Off the back of tonight's Diesel and Pascoe on BBC One, the announcement about the news played out over the top of the speech on the promo for tomorrow's episode.

The symbol, which followed, then played with no voice-over whatsoever.

So who's going to tell us that that isn't cast iron proof that BBC One's gone over to pre-recorded continuity?

Nothing new here - as has been the case for a while, sometimes it's pre-recorded, but most of the time it's live.

Mmmm...well, in their current situation, I'd have thought the fewer computer originated components they included within junctions the better. Although, if I were a Network Announcer working on BBC ONE at the moment, I'd probably be reluctant to perform live.

Everything is "computer originated", including live announcements!

BBC ONE Scotland had an announcer introducing the news and apologising for the fault in the previous promo.

Love it!

"We'd like to apologise for the apology that you heard over the top of that apology for a promo. Now an apology for the news."

What?? Are you telling me that there's a fleet of cyborgs in the Broadcast Centre?!?!?

At the time of transmission, unless I'm mistaken, the voice of a live announcer originates with a human, whose vocal output is channelled through a computer.

Recorded announcements are stored as .wav files (or alternative file extension) and played out from a machine.

Very sad if true, though I suspected this myself a few weeks ago when the "Next" announcement for Neighbours reappeared in part over the trail which followed.

If any broadcaster should have live annos round the clock it's the BBC. What's the excuse? As for overnights, surely one announcer can cover both BBC1 and BBC2?
