No-One has any idea what the Balloons replacement will be, will it be a numeric '1'! If is it will be based on thew same colour like BBC TWO's but more like red or something. I think BBC CHOICE should keep the cubes when it changes to THREE as it makes sense. I like the balloons, if there gonna get rid of them I'd like to have another globe, but maybe the idea HAS been overused!

I have this feeling... BBC1, 2, 3 and 4 will all be branded with a number, and all with a distinct colour scheme, as with BBC2's tasteless yellow background/purple box combo. No more globes, no more balloons, no more orange boxes.
It's not the way forward in my opinion, I think it's much better each channel idents having a completely different look, with the channel name at the bottom being the unifying factor - as at present (or at least pre-19 November).
But I think the BBC are after a more coherent identity across the four channels.

If I remember rightly, last year BBC ONE (and presumably TWO) released their Xmas idents earlier than normal on Friday 22nd Dec at the beginning of prime time. Will they follow-suit this year and start running the idents tomorrow evening? <Fingers poised on remote control!!>

I don't think so - traditionally, the BBC start airing their Christmas idents on BBC1 and 2 on the morning of Christmas Eve. I think last year was only an exception because Christmas Eve was on a Sunday.

Well I'm leaving my VCR running all evening anyway!!
I always think that an Xmas clock should be sanctioned - the red balloon clock always looks out of place on Xmas day after the idents have been played all day! It shouldn't be too difficult to replace the red background with a static caption of the ident surely after all it must be a vectored system - you can't have a bitmapped clock .. surely!!

Considering the clock isn't used for news bulletins at weekends or bank holidays any more (apart from Sunday 10pm), I don't think we will see it at all on Christmas Day. The Queen's speech is traditionally introduced by the clock ticking up to 3.00, and it was used in 1999, but last year the ident was used instead.
Personally, I think that the BBC One (and Two) Christmas idents should start tonight before 'Pop goes Christmas' as all their programming after that will be christmassy, and they should end the day after boxing day. I've always thought it ashame that they spend thousands of pounds to make some nice christmas idents and then they're only ever shown for 3 days - it seems a bit of a waste, and it's nice to stay feeling christmassy for a bit longer as well! Carlton's started it's Christmas ident, if they can do it the BBC can!

The clock face is overlayed onto a background...
