Do you know what those idents remind me of? The Internet Browser main screen interface on Wii U! While surfing the net on the Gamepad, you can shield what you're doing on your television using (here we go...) a pair of red curtains with your Mii character performing in front of them!
Now we know where the BBC are getting their ideas from... Nintendo! Who've thunk it!

Oh you miserable lot. I think they're rather nice, charming and fun. I find ITV's offering, though clearly highly produced, well, highly produced and not very ho ho ho.

Change them to what? I put it on side-by-side and swapped images back and forth. There's no real 3D there.
David
Try changing the 3D settings.

They're a bit basic and not that exciting, but that's not always a bad thing - simple can be effective.
At least they won't irritate as much as last year or tire like the 'jokes' did in 2010's, and they've not got Rob Brydon in them, think how bad they could have been. Of course they do avoid the two regular TVF moans - they've not got people in them and they're acceptable before the news.
I do reckon there's something behind the curtains which will be revealed at some point

We're not all Scrooges! I agree they are nice, and have a couple of strengths... They just aren't particularly impressive or festive on the whole, when considered alongside years past. Inspector above sums up how I feel and has it about right, IMO.
It's not unfair to say more could have been done on the ident side. More effort channeled, maybe commissioning some unique music for example - something lesser channels have managed in their time. BBC 1 is Auntie's flagship channel with the longest (perhaps quite illustrious) tradition, after all.
I do like that this year has avoided idents that are overly busy, drawn out, or with too much narrative - this is the upside of leaving that all to the promos, I guess. Further, the basic single-shot approach to the idents is reassuringly classic - again, I really like this aspect and would welcome it in future. But the whole thing lacks ebough festive style and mood; not much of a treat for the eye (and ear), again this is compared to many other years.
So, it's not as if everyone utterly hates them - I certainly don't - as I say, some specific points are good. They are far from the 'worst ever'; some comments may be out of initial disappointment - understandable, if an over-reaction. But I also still have the memory (well, just about!) to recall a number of the previous ideas, and on other points, this just doesn't come close.
I don't suppose you've looked up some old ITV English regions' idents at Christmas, going back a few decades?

Even though the quality of programmes of ITV is much worse than BBC, BBC came up with the most basic and boring christmas idents I have ever seen

And they didn't even fork out for an ident for that.
God, they're getting worse. The BBC seem to have forgotten that Christmas isn't all about what's on the BBC - that's really just a small part of it.
Oh dear. Well, that's it folks, all the money was spent on this year's Olympics.
And they didn't even fork out for an ident for that.
After being out all evening, I've loaded up the computer to come here & check the offerings from BBC One. Maybe I shouldn't have bothered.
Another BBC1 Christmas ident revealed.

Although my favourite Christmas ident was the wizard of 1990, here are memories of the bouncing puddings in 2004... my first annoucing shift at Christmas and no, I don't know why my voice was so high pitched.

Brilliant! Hope you get to do something similar this year.
And what do you think of this year's 'efforts' Duncan?!

Perhaps unintentionally amusing how, in that first junction, the jolly music and jokey panto-style announcement is immediately contrasted by Jon Briggs' deadly serious Weakest Link intro!
BA
If they wanted to cut back the cost of the idents, all they needed to do is to have some Christmassy music and some falling snow over the BBC One logo - it'd certainly be more merry than this!

You're right Paul, it was a panto special so I got away with it... "oh no I didn't"
