In the 90s to early 00s it used to be a big intro / stab / jingle at the start, then it'd lead into a bed of sorts that was well-suited to continuity annos

I suspect this is why the BBC2 ident works so well, its got a complex setup leading to a simple climax with a distinct change in music. If ran properly, therefore haivng the announcer talk only after the box has faded in, it looks wonderful.

Course they stole their design from a certain internet forum but never mind Smile

It doesn't work that well at all IMO - it's just a random animation which cuts to a BBC2 trailer style endboard at the end. It's an ident which could easily be tweaked to be used on any channel really.

Both of BBC Two's idents and the stings are excellent. They're unique amongst the other mainstream channels and eerily atmospheric without any apologetic nods towards the generic cheerful Christmassy stuff. I'm personally very glad to see them back.

Just seen the plain version of the ident into the news - the music really jarred with the serious and somber announcement

Yes i saw that too, it's more suitable though for going into the news.

So, how many stings on BBC1 this year? I think I counted 3 yesterday.

I think there are at least 7 stings.

And looking at all the Christmas pres I think the best one belongs to Sky 1/2/3.

Just had a look at YouTube, there's 8 on there so far.

Surely they'd have been better off with a couple less stings and making another ident instead - or even as someone suggested a night variation of the main ident.

Good God that's a large number but I think the Penguins had close to that number last year.

I agree, it would be better to have another variation, either a nightime one or with Wallace & Gromit making the circle in a different way. It does show how what we want to see has changed. In the past there was always only one ident now we expect a couple at least for Christmas.

I thought penguins had only 5.

I agree another ident would be better than 3 more stings.

So could many idents.
