As a guess, I think they will air at about 18:10 before strictly. Anyone have a definite time?

The BBC's Youtube channel states 18.10 as the launch time.

Thanks for that Smile So I was correct Smile

(Any news on BBC2? I think 17:40 because there is a Christmas special on then Smile)

Not sure that ident without Wallace and Grommit is really that appropriate for news - the pre-recorded voiceovers they have in some of the regions really won't work over that soundtrack.

Sod's law says there will be an avalanche somewhere and the whole lot will be canned as being inappropriate...

I don't understand why they don't just use the 'generic swirl' device (the one which precedes the 8pm bulletin) to introduce the news over the Christmas period, with this year's snow overlayed. Or even better, a clock!

This is a bit more like it! Nice little animation and holding sequence - the stings are funny too.

Good to see they have a more serious alternative ident this year, which I think is appropriate enough, apart from the music which is still far too upbeat. When will they learn?

The ITV and Five idents are so much nicer and exciting to see first time as broadcast.

I think it may of been a mistake by the BBC putting it on youtube and to the press before airing on telly.

Probably. A change of sound track might make it more appropriate, but only at a push.

And I know we've talked alot about them launching too early - with all the stings produced, why not just keep the regular idents and use just the stings for the first week, bringing out the ident nearer the day itself.

I think the visuals of the "sombre-ish" version are fine (barring any snow related disasters in the news) but yeah, the music doesn't really set the right mood. However if the news was particularly heavy then they could use Helicopter, Moon or Kites as usual.

That's how I feel about it, too. It's always more enjoyable to have idents first shown on-screen, as they were designed to be shown.

The Guardian's video of the ident was in the wrong AR too, so that's hardly the best way to see the symbol for the first time, is it?

But what if one moonlit evening a kite gets entangled with a helicopter, causing it to plummet to the ground and set off an avalanche?

Then they'd use hippos. Laughing
