Well BBC Two aren't giving anything away. The trail for Nigella's Christmas Kitchen uses a standard endboard even though it premieres after the idents are due to launch. IIRC the Sprite Christmas trails were seen before the idents launched last year.

Still think Saturday is too early - last year there was only a couple of Christmas shows during that first week of Christmas pres, otherwise the schedule was as normal. I can understand giving it a good airing post Boxing Day but 11 days before Christmas Eve is just too early.

And airing those trails since Dec 01 is also over-the-top. I'm sick of the sight of them already.

I think some people here are living in the past. I don't understand the logic, surely you have to Christmas pres/trailers a good few days before nowadays?

We moan year after year about the idents debuting too early but to be honest, it's never going to change.

The Christmas Pres should come on air, when the christmas schedules come into play...

OT: BBC Three have sparkles on their trailers for Christmas programmes. (They don't show too well on these stills.)

Christmas hasn't moved. Yet, every year, Christmas-related activities and hype just seem to get earlier and earlier.

Why do the BBC feel they need to start trailing programmes weeks in advance? The BBC has taken a conscious decision to start trailing Christmas programmes at the start of December. Why?

How many times are those trails going to be shown this month? At the moment, I'm thoroughly sick of the sight of them. The only purpose they're serving just now, is prompting me to reach for the remote control.

I've no problem with the trailers being shown from early December, but the idents should wait until it really is Christmas, not the countdown to Christmas.

And by that I don't mean hold off until Christmas Eve, but launching nearly two weeks before Christmas is a joke. The first year the BBC broke with tradition they got it right launching around the 21st, and for the next couple of years it made sense to stick with the Saturday before Christmas - but now it's got to a point where an extra week has creeped into the schedule, a week where there is actually very little Christmas programming about - especially on the BBC, who tend to save it for the Christmas period itself.

Looking through the schedules the first programmes on BBC1 I'd consider to be Christmas specials are After You're Gone and Lark Rise to Candleford on Sunday 21st December - up until then it's very much business as usual.

No need, really. The sparkles just don't show as well on a still as they do when they're animating - just like 4Music's Christmas DOG.

I don't see a problem with it.

There are 2 differences between trailing now and the rest of the year - firtly they are all one-off programmes so deserve more trailling as there's no audience inheritance from others in the same series in the same time slot.

Also if they didn't promote Christmas shows now.... what would they promote? TV companies always advertise what's coming up in the next few weeks and most regular series are ending and being replaced by fillers. Christmas shows are the only thing left to promote
