It really is that time of year again! BBC1 Christmas speculation. I am going for Sprout Boy again but with tweaks!
Sprout Boy's long animation and one of the idents can't be reused. Will.I.Am is on it, representing the Voice... which is now an ITV show.

And Mary Berry since The Bake Off will soon be on Channel 4.

But Mary Berry's staying with the BBC...

Wasn't Paul somewhere in there too?

They'll both still be at the BBC this Christmas though - indeed unlike last year the Bake Off is getting Christmas specials this year.

Paul wasn't on the ident, no.

Luther, Claudia Winkleman, Graham Norton, Tess Daly, the Doctor, Dot Branning, Will.I.Am, Watson, Sherlock, Mary Berry.

Forgotten how creepy that ident was.

If they go down a similar road again of a concept to tie the Christmas presentation together I would hope they'd look to do if for all their output (or at least BBC1 and BBC2), rather than just BBC1. It wouldn't have taken much to expand it slightly further to do something for BBC2 along the same lines, and if it means one less BBC1 ident to get a new BBC2 ident then it's a price worth paying.

No wonder he left. Maybe Channel 4 offered him his own Christmas ident...

The above links tell the story of BBC1's Christmas idents of the past. There's been some crackers and some turkeys. What can we expect in 2016? A high standard ident like 2006's, or a disappointment like 2012's? Or, will we see something we've seen before?

I just wish they would not reveal it too early. Last year they unveiled Sprout Boy and the idents on 1st December, far too early. You get bored of it by Christmas Day. This year they should leave it until Saturday 10th December at the earliest, but I doubt it. I have a feeling it will be unveiled on Saturday 3rd December, as they used to unveil it before Strictly Come Dancing.

I want to see the BBC go full traditional, something Victorian. Very reassuring, especially in what has become just an awful year full of celebrity deaths and horrible terrors and news events.

Indeed. I miss the BBC One idents of 1899 (reused, famously, in 1900 and 1901 due to cost-cutting as a result of the frozen carrier pigeon licence during the Boer War). If BBC Two can use old idents, why not BBC One also?

DQF cuts, preventing a full refresh, and out of sheer desperation because by the period when Window in the World was retired, the presentation was hacked off to bits, so they used the 50th anniversary to level the playing field with the excellent 90s idents.

BBC One - it's doubtful that old idents will be used, but either new circle idents can be used, or a complete overhaul with the beginning of the next charter period. The current set definitely needs a few new idents to stay fresh, but the BBC isn't bothered about this in the slightest.

Joe, how droll. Great way to come across as witty. No, I meant Victorian style.
