When I first saw it I thought it was ghastly but now it is growing on me. The baubels, I'm sorry, really are ridiculous and look like they've come out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I don't think much to the rest of the visuals either for that matter, and I do notice that there is very little difference to the normal and the news variant. However, I am pleased there is a new ident and what I do like more than anything is the mysterious, and somewhat sinister, music. It is the most interesting ident music from the BBC, as well as Invisible Walls, and that's what makes this ident good. However, I do agree with comments that it is hardly Christmassy and also think that I will be sick and tired of it by Christmas Eve. Shame about the video otherwise a good ident.
Out of interest what is it technically called?

What makes something Christmassey or not Christmassey? I interpret the ident as a sort of North Pole setting with the children in elf costumes climbing up Santa's Christmas Tree with giant baubles....I don't get why they are floating in the sky. The green sky is different and the Northern Lights touch is great. Surely this ident is VERY Christmassey. In fairness, the 1991 moon ident wasn't particularly Christmassey unless it was on an occasion when Santa flew past! I think this is the most striking ident, most colourful ident and indeed the most memorable one since 2001's Cosy Living Room.
I too though, am very interested in what this one is called. Does anyone know what last years was called and of course the Snowflake kids. What was the official title of that. Was it just simply "Snowflake"?
The ident is a bit wierd at first with the crooked tree and oompa-loompas but it is good and its more original than before (ie: christmas pudding ). The music is very good although a bit halloweenish. A much better result than before.
Got all nostalgic and looked through the TV Room archives last night - and we're being short changed now.
In the 80's and 90's there were often at least two versions of the BBC1 Christmas ident - one for daytime and one for evenings - generally with slightly different variations too. And that was when it was only aired for three days!
Also, something I didn't realise but up until 1990 Wales and Scotland usually had different idents for Christmas. Anyone know why, considering they had the same ident the rest of the year?

Last year's was Bouncy Puddings and the 2002-2003 one was Snowflake. I presume this one will be called Baubel or something like that, but I am unaware as what the official title is (hence why I asked).
