Right, change the colour of the sky to blue, make the music more festive - (add some bells for goodness sake!), and change the shape of the (cone-shaped) tree. THEN I'll compromise but really.....its just not very festive for me.

If this were a mock, I'd give BBC1 a 7/10 on this years ident. Rolling Eyes Not a good rating in a professional sense.

Next year they may as well stick a camera in a school playground. Rolling Eyes

i think that this is the most brilliant christmas ident EVER! i love the music and think that makes it great. And what's wrong with the green sky? the kind of aurora borealis effect is so imaginitve. a blue sky would have been really obvious and boring. this is really atmospheric and christmassy, and i think this ident will be remembered. However the music doesn't sound much like Christmas, more like The Nightmare before Christmas.

Hit the nail on the head there, just what I was thinking. The music just doesn't suit this whole BBC Christmas theme. The ident itself is brilliant, don't get me wrong, but the music just isn't festive at all. Much preferred last year's music, much more festive and jolly, nice tune to hum along to.

All in all I think it's quite refreshing- clearly inspired by the new Charlie and the Chocolate factory, it's great to see an ever so slightly sinister Christmas ident.

The green sky gives the impression of it being night (as someone has said it's a bit like the aurora)- an essential ingredient of a cosy, family Christmas. A blue sky would indicate day, and a plain black night sky would lack interest.

I think the sky as a design is close to perfect, the green fading out to black at the top and the merging to white at the bottom creates that infinite distance effect. One niggle is that they could have made the clouds/northern lights effects move and too create a really creepy feel, make them move really fast.

I think the idea of the children carrying the balls is sound but the balls themselves look really out of place, I think it would have looked better if the kids were carryng plastic bubbles with point lights within them.

*waits for L u x ton to suggest that they should be carrying globes*

EDIT: And tuppeny piece for the person who can tell me how many lights and people (I think) you can see in the first kids ball Laughing

Am I mistaken but is it the same kid that gets the opening shot again as last year?

i agree about the sky. Given the constraints (kids, dancing etc) i think that someone has done a fantastic job of this - imaginative, quirky and quite beautiful. It reminds me of a Dr Seuss illustration. v.good.

Well, what can we expect from a Christmas ident, when it has to be based on 'rhythm and movement'.

But 'Rhythm and Movement' means nothing specific. All it meas is that it has music and it isn't a static picture.... and that includes virtually every ident ever created

I actually like this ident very much. It's new, it's not overly red, it's a slight change in direction, it's actually very festive too in a sort of odd way!

We would have moaned if a repeat of last years was used and here we are, still moaning even though a new one has been produced. We're an odd lot!!!
