I totally see where you're coming from mate, but I personally can't bear the thought of being reminded of Christmas... in January. I find it depressing. I guess that's why most christmas decorations and the likes come down at New Year, sometimes before. Although correctly speaking they should have stayed until 6th Jan one generally finds that most of the "festive spirit" has evaporated from most peoples' minds by then. Having said that, 2004's BBC One Christmas ident ran for like 2 1/2 weeks (correct me if I'm wrong), there again that appears to have been their most successful one since 2002.
Although the view of participants in this thread is that the dancers will be gone by Christmas this year, some might argue a dancers' Christmas ident should be made this year, in addition to the new one, to make up for 2003 (Simon Luxton?)

Right, I was trying to type "Simon L.u.x.t.o.n" without the dots. Anyone care to tell me why the swear filter censored it out?

If the new look is not in place by Christmas there should certainly be a new Christmas ident. Just as there was in 2001, when the balloons had only a few months thereafter left.

HA
I honestly think we'll get new idents before the end of 2006, especially seeing as ITV are refreshing their idents.
Yes, I'm sure we will too. People forget that the much-loved balloons were only on air from 04th October 1997 to 28th March 2002. That's almost 4 years, 6 months. If we apply the same timeframe then the dancers will be replaced this September (hooray!). My guess is that they will either go this Sep/Oct to coincide with the Autumn season. However, because they are generally unpopular & the possible rebranding was first mentioned some while ago (last August), they may go earlier. In that case I would imagine they would introduce a new look to coincide with a major BBC One 'TV event' - which, given how excited they have become over the programme, may be the start of the new series of Doctor Who in March/April.
Either that, or they will follow the lifespan of the Lambie-Nairn globe, which ran for 6 and-a-half years (oh God, I hope not....)

When I first saw these... things I thought it was some kind of joke. The children are definitely more sinister in 2005 and the music was utter crap. 2004's spacehopper one outperforms this anytime - and remember who invented it? Well unless the person or persons who thought up the Christmas idents for 2005 are younger than ten years of age then I suggest the beeb give them the cold shoulder.
IIRC we are due for new BBC One idents in 2007? Meaning that this years will be the last of the Christmas dancers, so they better bring us half decent idents for 2006!

Remember too though when the idents were relaunched in 1991 with the new globe and the 2? That was in February I believe so who knows it might be closer than we think. This is what confuses me why not have the idents in place ready for the new year? It's like ITV why relaunch on January 16th when they could have done it after the end of the Christmas idents?

Excuse me "tvmercia", what have I done to spark this childish rudeness? I havn't been rude to anyone on this forum. This behaviour is totally uncalled for.

Actually young man, if you were writing that post at 5 minutes to midnight last night (6 January), then Christmas ended nearly 24 hours ago at that time. January 5 is the 12th day of Christmas. There is no 13th day, and Christmas is no more as of the 6th, and this is marked by Epiphany, yes Epiphany - not epifany.
