I didn't hate the curtain either. I was just disappointed it didn't offer more. Perhaps opening up to reveal the start of key programmes. I liked the simplicity of it. The wrapping paper was nice. I liked it.
It was a classic example of TV Forum inventing something that was never the case, believing the curtain would open to reveal something when that was never the plan, and then complaining when it didn't happen.
It was a case of the ident being utterly underwhelming, us not believing something so crap could be all we were getting, and despair at it not having the obvious payoff it should have had.
I know it was pretty simple but the year they had the wrapping paper theme is probably one of my favourites of recent years. Less is sometimes more.
Then again I also didn't hate the curtain.

If I remember correctly, the wrapping paper theme didn't go down all that well on here, but I agree, I think it was the best of the past decade, harking back to simpler times of Christmas presentation. In recent years it's all become a bit too elaborate, but hopefully this year will be better.
I think 2014, the forest of Christmas trees that formed up into a circle was pretty decent.

Confirmed, if no one's already mentioned, the BBC One idents will launch on Sunday into Strictly (7:20pm).

I had a feeling it would probably either be that or 'less likely' His Dark Materials at 8pm.

Just to clarify, I wasn’t complaining about Xmas. I was quoting a character from Corrie or Emmerdale who said in an episode years ago as they were annoyed at seeing ‘xmas’ used in advertising in the local shop and not ‘Christmas’. I thought it was a funny line.
Why "X" is acceptable. It's the Greek word for Christ. It also denotes a Cross which Jesus died on. Therefore it shouldn't be pronounced Xmas but Christ-mas.
"The "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Christós (Χριστός), which became Christ in English."

I remember in 2002 that the Snowflake Kids ident aired before Northwest Tonight on the Friday evening, 24 hours before the ident was officially launched.
Ident aired in Yorkshire before Sunday Politics, looked like wrapping paper. It looked a lot better than the previous wrapping paper idents.
