Wow. Those are monster ratings. I’m amazed. I thought it might get half that. That makes it one of the highest rated programmes of the year.

I never thought I would see a Christmas Day show get that overnight audience rating in 2019! That is astonishing. When was the overnight figures released and where?

Gavin & Stacey 11.5m
The Queen 7.7m
Strictly Come Dancing 5.6m
Michael McIntyre’s Big Christmas Show 5.2m
Call the Midwife 5.2m
EastEnders 5.2m
Coronation Street 4.5m
Mrs Brown's Boys 4.4m
Emmerdale 4.1m

Truly sensational rating for Gavin & Stacey - I wonder how it'll consolidate.

I see Mrs Brown's Boys has taken a further dip, and rightly so. Big gap between Gavin and Stacey and the second highest overnight rated programme, The Queen.

Last night’s Gavin & Stacey pulled in 11.5m (peaking at 12.3m) - the biggest Christmas Day ratings for over a decade.

Much deserved - shows the audience is there for something new and the other ratings show how without such a show BBC1 has been failing half its audience on Christmas Day for years.

Are the ratings for 'The Queen' merged BBC / ITV / Sky or just BBC One at 1500?

Much deserved -

Agreed. It was the only 'live' telly we watched yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

All but completely drowned out by the music when I saw that one on Freesat HD. They had it fixed for the next one.

Was it in 5.1 or vanilla stereo? The former often has poor balance for 5.1 junctions

Everything else rated in or around what I expected. The overall trend is still down in terms of ratings with no other prime time show rating above 6 million. I agree with others that BBC 1 really do need to shake up the Christmas Day schedule next year and put some more different shows in there.

A revival of a ten year old series, "something new"?

It's all the channels added together, but it would still be number two in the chart even if you just include BBC1.

Isn’t that what makes it new? Better than yet more Mrs Brown’s Boys and Call the Midwife surely - they’re certainly not special any more.
