Well, indeed - and given ITV have dropped the teatime news on bog-standard Saturdays, I don't see the great hardship in losing one on Christmas Day, because it's Christmas Day.

Could one still be squashed in at 555 for 5 mins cause strictly is normally 75. Ins on Christmas Day

If one was going to be squashed in for five minutes, it would have been in the schedule, like on New Year's Day.

On the official BBC One schedules page they have the BBC News at One on Christmas Day at 12.40 and BBC News at Ten at 11.35pm. Surely they did not have to have these titles, just BBC News would have been fine?

Christmas Day is a slow news day in general so it's no surprise that it's been pushed out of the main schedules.

Because the Weekend News exists as a brand, it means using a generic BBC News brand for a handful of days a year, with all the issues that involves with making sure it has the correct rights for iPlayer and so on, or just keeping the same branding for the news bulletins on a weekday. Obviously they don't use it on air.

With a couple of exceptions it is (1989 and 1991 for example)... but that doesn't mean it alway will be

It’s not strictly true that there is ‘no news’. It’s all pretty predictable stuff that is in the news, but people still tuned in when it was on.

At least it solves the issue of deciding who will draw the short straw and be on the rota, as it’ll be nobody. It’s doubtful if they’d even have to bring a BBC One presenter in for the late bulletin, and just get a News Channel random to host it.

News channel presenter will probably host the one o'clock news like they do on the weekend

Don't be too certain, after all, we had Huw Edwards around Christmas last year (as far as I can recall, on the 25th itself) Smile

An awful lot as to who's on will depend on if when the count of the 650 next Thursday through Friday produces a clear result, and the ramifications thereof are concluded. If we're still in febrile mode all bets are off.

Absolutely hate it. The music is just TERRIBLE. What has a gospel choir singing Gorillaz got to do with Christmas? Also, I don't get the theme at all, nothing seems to link them. Only thing I like is the animation of ●ne into one. 1/10.

Did you not understand the launch video?

Seen it 3 times now. Still not a clue what's going on.
