"Christmas with Wallace & Gromit".
It wasn't that long enough that they were still airing Morecambe & Wise reruns on Christmas Day, which they now seem to have stopped doing. The passing of "Andrew Preview" Wink earlier this year was probably an ideal excuse to wheel out the 1971 Christmas special of Morecambe & Wise.

Obligatory I-feel-old fact - the time between the first showing of ‘A Close Shave’ and today (24 years) is the same as between A Close Shave and the 1971 Christmas Special of Morecambe and Wise. Maybe in another decade they’ll start repeating David Tennant Xmas specials of Doctor Who at that time.

To be fair, Gavin & Stacey feels like a genuine Christmas Day “event” of which there’s been few of over the years compared to a decade or two ago. It’s the first Christmas Day in years that actually has something I might bother to watch in the evening, and I can see it being the day’s most watched programme which’ll make a nice change from the usual.

Cue lots of people outraged that the schedule isn't the exact same as it was on Christmas Day when they were 10 years old.

Still, amazing to see the now 14 year old Two Ronnies Sketchbook get another outing. I've always found it a little sad given how frail Ronnie B looks.

Clearly the BBC have decided that there is no need to be a public service broadcaster at Christmas. A singular 15 minute news bulletin at lunchtime being all they're providing on Xmas day and the late bulletin being all of 5 minutes including the weather on years day (and they'll still probably bring someone extra in to present it).

But they do have a 24 hour new channel..... for the uk .
( and two other BBC 24 hour PSB tv news channels and one commercial one)
