In a way I can see why retailers release adverts online before tv, but when your business is TV shouldn’t it be held back to premiere on the screen?

Their business isn’t just TV, it’s online too. I rarely watch on TV now, mostly via iPlayer, which is an online service.

And for promotional content - sharing via social media is a key distribution method.

Seriously depressing stuff. At least last years was uplifting.

Why would this make anyone watch BBC One at Christmas?

When I saw that the brilliant Emmy the Great was being used for the soundtrack I was hoping it would it be this classic.

I've watched the promo a couple of times. I must admit, it is starting to grow on me and isn't at all what I had originally been expecting. Ok, it's a bit depressing to start out, however the ending is quite nice and uplifting. As for the idents, we'll get to find out this evening what they're like. I do hope the music on them is a bit more upbeat than the promo.

Personally, I have a gut instinct that it's BBC Two who will surpass their sister channel when it comes to festive idents this year.

Not entirely sure about this - think it represents a lot of families well over Christmas, it's just very dark!

Agree - doesn't really represent the BBC either. Agree with someone earlier who said they need to stop trying to compete with the Xmas ads and just do what they can excel at - indeed get it right and they're usually pier-less when it comes to Christmas idents.

That said from the stills seen so far the idents may just work.

Filled with content from TV and presumably on the whole watched via the TV nowadays.

I'm thinking those could be BBC Two's Xmas idents?
Then again, I'm excited to see what BBC Two brings to the table

Sorry. I've just realised you mean Vista and Tree in relation to the BBC One idents. I was thinking of BBC Two, which could easily be described as Vista and Tree. But which are in fact Magical and Glamourous.
