How instantly depressing is that.

Unless my memory is playing tricks with me, isn't it a very similar theme to last year, i.e. busy parent finds time away from hectic life to spend time with their child, albeit this time in live action rather than the more uplifting animation?

I will reserve judgement until I see the idents but I'm not sure how distinctive or "special" they'll be based on the trailer. It all seems rather muted. My guess is a bit of a cross between 2014's Christmas trees and 2016 boring Christmas Oneness (jumper / Christmas cracker hat bald head) idents in terms of visual style.

And instead of father and daughter it's mother and son. Bloody repeats!

They look... uninspired.

BBC Two should be interesting, at least.

I do like the snow animation for the logo.
That's the only good thing about it imo

It’s alright, if a little worthy. They’ve clearly decided that the John Lewis style advert is their thing now, which is fair enough, but the surrounding presentation and idents tend to feel like an afterthought.

I suppose having such a weak theme the rest of the year means they aren’t as restricted when it comes to having to fit into an existing style.

In a way I can see why retailers release adverts online before tv, but when your business is TV shouldn’t it be held back to premiere on the screen?

Sorry to keep going on about fonts, but isn't that heading in Johnston, ie the London Underground font?

It does look similar, but the numerals and lower case "t" are certainly quite distinct from the modern version of Johnston used by London Underground.

Fellow font fan here! Don’t think it’s Johnston...

Not entirely sure about this - think it represents a lot of families well over Christmas, it's just very dark!

Their business isn’t just TV, it’s online too. I rarely watch on TV now, mostly via iPlayer, which is an online service.
