The BBC has put in about as much effort here as Jordan Pickford did in the Merseyside derby yesterday.

Whereas ITV have put in no effort whatsoever.

Err well, it is only Dec 3rd. Our Christmas Tree and decs are still in the loft

Does that not tell you aswell the current ITV branding is also dire, even though it's one of the strongest it had in years. Both companies need to sacked people and go back to asking designer to create presentation.

Well, one could also accuse Channel 4 of "putting in no effort whatsoever" if they too are using the same Christmas idents as last year. Wink

The belief that BBC1, BBC2, ITV, C4 and C5 should be bringing out new Christmas idents *every* year is one I totally understand. Alas, that's just not how it works these days...

Personally, I'd be more up for Christmas idents not launching until Christmas Eve (as in the old days), or mid-December at the very earliest - instead of at the very start of the month. As Applemask said in his 2015 Christmas Wrapping, launching such idents on 1st December "effectively detonates the entire concept of anticipation".

But again, that's just the way it is now...

I partially agree. I understand that they launch them so early to get the most of out the money spent on them, but it negates them to become standard idents. Now that they have launched, that’s it, nothing to look forward to, unless extra ones are to be added as the month goes on.

I am not talking about when they launch, I am talking about ITV just reusing their older Christmas ident package and not bothering to do something new each year. Not surprising as Christmas presentation on ITV has been up and down for decades, due in part to the network not having a one codified ident package for the whole of the UK. It has only been since 2002 that they started to bring a cohesive national look to their idents, years after BBC.

Channel 4 used to do new presentation each year until around 1996, they then created a few new Christmas idents for their 1996 look and their 1999 look. They abandoned Christmas presentation from 2005-2015 and at least their Christmas idents from 2015, and updated in 2017 are reasonable and not that old.

The film reminds me of that Quick Quid payday loan advert. Has all the charm of it too.

Good call, and that advert doesn’t just use the frozen in time technique, but also features a busy mum and their son

Why do you keep mentioning that point. I’m not sure the BBC aim to just do more effort than ITV. What ITV do at Christmas is irrelevant in the context of what BBC One does. BBC One make much more fuss at Christmas and their presentation and programming is a big deal. ITV’s have never been even in old days.

Somehow made more disturbing by the way it cuts off.
