Why don't the produce regional countdown sequences to the news, as most of the time local bbc stations do the voice over for the news so they can opt out to the regional headlines, then regional coundown like the news channel would be really effective Confused

The BBC News 24 countdown is already a clock in all but name, and that doesn't slow down junctions.

That's different, it's just a sequence to fill to the top of the hour.

And a clock isn't?

It's very different to what normal TV channels used to have. The News Channel have to fill anything up to 2 minutes up to the top of the hour, that's why they've always had graphics or a montage (but never a clock) there. BBC1 (at least since the 60's) used it for 10 or so seconds just like an ident. They can fill or cut timings with a variety of interstituals - trails, slides etc.

Maybe everyone could just buy a watch, or dig that old VHS recorder from the loft and put it under the telly so you know what time it is?

Have NI done an edit yet with the audio something more appropriate? They're usually the sensible ones.

Yes.

Very nice news ident from NI. No soundtrack, just the snowflake sound effects which are very quiet anyway. Its great to see a sombre ident from BBC One for once, perfect for the news.

Loads of background chatter on the CA coming up link after CBBC.

I've heard background noises for a split second at the start of many BBC 1 CAs over the last week.
Sounds as if the booth monitoring speakers, are not muting fast enough when the mic is opened ?

Isn't this part of the audio for the idents/stings? It sounds like party chatter to go with the party scenes in the Consider Yourself house.

Yes, that's what I assumed. It makes it sound like the announcer is in a pub

Little brother has definitely outdone the big fella this year - the table is an odd shot and having celebs larking about beforehand gets pretty tedious. The news ident is better - thankfully NI know what's appropriate regarding audio - and the film ident whilst nice, just stands out like a [corrected!] sore thumb. It feels like the 'consider yourself' audio has been tacked on just to provide some continuity.

The pros? Lovely endboards and it's novel to have the trail merge into the ident, a bit like 1990 I think?

I could be mistaken, but aren't the Christmas idents here a bit early this year? I'm pretty sure, in the past, they didn't appear much before a week or so before Christmas Eve.
