Indeed lots of different ideas

- The Consider Yourself celebs
- The christmas buffet/cake form up
- The winter scene form up with CGI snowflakes
- The Christmas jumpers on the endboards
- The completely different Gruffulo ident

David Jason seems so out of place considering everyone else in the promo are run of the mill BBC staff like Nick Knowles and Carol Kirkwood!

Is that because he hasn't appeared in a new BBC series for a few years?
(Although you could argue that the 'Fools' repeats are keeping him in the public eye as a BBC star at this moment? Not forgeting he's got a new BBC show starting soon!)

Or are you thinking of him as an ITV star, for the last few years, in which case you could argue that Brucie is in the same situation, but Brucie hasn't appeared on a regular ITV show for the past few years, so is Brucie more BBC than ITV?

I must admit seeing the non light entertainment people eg the Breakfast presenters, on the trail is more strange.

You wouldn't see the likes of Huw Edwards doing this sort of thing though!

Did you not spot Fiona Bruce dancing across the screen with Alex Jones, Nick Knowles, Julia Bradbury and co then? Razz

I did, but Fiona does do non news programmes as well. (And before you say so, Sian did do that history programme with Dan Snow!)

Maybe it's time we just enjoyed the trailer for what it stands for, a Christmas with familiar people, instead of analysing it?

This is TV Forum, you should know deep analysis is part and parcel of this sort of thing.

Don't like it at all.

It is reassuring to see money being spent on idents, but I have to say I would have preferred a rerun of snowball and the pennies to go towards a rebrand.

Gruffalo symbol, like BBC2's offering, turns out to be a very nice surprise - I like it!

Awful news ident. Music is way too lively!

I think those brash CGI snowflakes sum it up really, there's just too much going on and no cohesion between the differing ideas. Endboards are lovely though.

These pretty much mirror my views also.

They call it a 'news' symbol? With music like that - just need to bring back Non-Stop over the headlines for the extra layer of inappropriate jollity and we're all set.

Heaven forbid there is a fairly major incident - all of a sudden, a mute still frame actually looks quite appealing.

NB: The music sapped a lot of gravitas out of the BBC News handover. And so the first day comes to a close!

It is strange, but I think this is what i like about it. Also, I presume the remit for the trailer was to promote BBC One as being the only channel you need to watch to get a mix of everything. Having personalities from pretty much every genre on the channel meets this.

Am I not wrong in thinking David Jason is starring in a new series "The Royal Bodyguard" on BBC1 premiereing this Christmas?

The main bunch of idents (the 'Consider Yourself...' set) are okay, they are not the best (especially considering the quality of past 'Circle' Christmas idents) - although not the worst either. The challenge will be, as some have said already - it will get tired really quickly. Considering it's two weeks until Christmas and the Christmas idents generally air until the early hours of January 2nd, I know I would get tired of hearing those bells after a few days.

In addition, the news version is far too cheerful - especially considering last year, there was a good balance between the main Doctor Who and news version of the Christmas ident.

In saying that, Gruffalo is my favourite in the set. Apart from it being an unexpected and fantastic ident (along with the new BBC Two Christmas idents), the thing I like about it is in particular that after the main form-up of the circle, there's still something going on. In this case, it's the Gruffalo and the child interacting on the side. Much like how with the Wallace & Gromit '09 idents, Wallace would continue talking to Gromit while being stuck.

I believe you're talking about the 2009 Christmas ident, not last years, which was non-programme specific.

But yes I think that is the best Christmas news ident of the circles era, sombre music but with the same theme as the rest of the package, really worked well. Last year's was pretty inappropriate, this years even more so.

The shot of the 'stars' dancing on the ident is very quick, who is the woman to the left of Alexander Armstrong?

The 'News' ident may seam too 'jolly' but I am surprised nobody has come up with the obvious solution.

Bring back the clock!
