I hope next year they go back to something simple but festive like in 1998:

My favourite was the magical wizard, coming out of the magic book and walking down the steps- 1990.

In the circle era, you have to go some way to beat the penguins.

Oh I'd forgotten about the Milennium Ident ...! I have a framed print of that somewhere, given to all presentation staff working on the night Smile

They seemed to slap it on anything around that time - the relavence of those Dibley episodes, other than set in the year 2000, was tenuous at best!

It seems the Christmas News ident has received a new soundtrack (at least on BBC One NI) it just features a twinkling sound.

It truly is one of the worst things on TV in years. Notice too everytime I seem to catch something on BBC1 they seem to use the Gruffalo ident.

I miss a lot of the balloon era ones. 1997 and 1998 were great. Interesting that the balloon itself took a back seat for its first Christmas. The later ones featuring the balloon were good too. I particularly remember the one where Santa is being carried by the balloon and drops presents.

The 1991 and 1997 packages brought with them great Christmas idents for BBC One. Compare this selection of Christmas idents from the balloon era:

With this selection from the dancers:

Yeah, I think I know which is my favourite. The balloon era and the 1991-1997 idents captured a magical atmosphere of Christmas in imaginative ways. The dancers era? Stick a bunch of kids in costumes on different backgrounds. Yeah. Then use them into the news of the tsunami on Boxing Day 2004... I do realise that particular ident was designed by a Blue Peter viewer, but it's just they never felt as a well-produced as what we'd had from 2001 and before.

So is it just me or was everything better with the balloons? Razz
