Has anyone heard what the other programme related idents will be over Christmas - or is Doctor Who the only one? Earlier in the thread it was mooted that there would be others, but no news yet?

I wonder if there will be other idents at Christmas or if that was just a rumour? It might just be the Doctor Who ident and one sans Doctor for leading into the news.

I guess the success of the product allows it, cause let's be honest, it's the one programme on the BBC that doesn't need any advertising at all. So really the idents are a celebration of David Tennant's version of The Doctor before Matt takes over on New Year's Day.

53 million viewers couldn't give a stuff about that.

Also you've just admitted that it's primarily a celebration of Dr Who rather than a celebration of Christmas time.
It's a Christmas setting but instead of Santa and a sleigh you get The Doctor and the TARDIS. It is in the spirit of Christmas but if Christmas is truly to be represented in an ident it should feature Joseph, Mary, Three Wise Men, a stable and Jesus.

Russell T Davies has been using that sort of bullying tactic throughout his time in charge of Doctor Who.

I take it you just mean that some people are critical of something of which you approve ?

Ah yes of course, silly me... I forgot the three wise men turned up to see Jesus on space hoppers whilst Penguins flew around on a sand rink being watched over by a bright orange hot air balloon in the sky! Laughing Be realistic, since when have television idents been religious on major channels? You can't start using that excuse now, just cause it's Doctor Who! Besides, the use of the supposedly impressive 53 million number isn't all that effective, as there wouldn't be that many viewers for anything anyway. Doctor Who will get the biggest numbers this Christmas whether you appreciate it or not, and therefore makes it worthy of the press and advertising it will receive.

Judging by television listings this Christmas it should be Doctor What's On?!

Just found the answer to a question that was bugging me!

Music details for the current BBC1 Christmas movies trail can be found on the BBC website here: http://faq.external.bbc.co.uk/questions/television/christmas_trails_music2009

No it's not. It's a wintry setting.

Strange logic. If the ident is shown before every BBC One programme then of course more non-Dr Who fans are going to see it than Dr Who fans!

Dr Who will get 10 million viewers - at the most. EastEnders will get 14 million. Maybe next year the idents should feature the residents of Albert Square.

I wasn't suggesting the idents should be religious either, but there are lots of non-religious Christmas symbols and snow and penguins just aren't good enough. The reindeer are a slight improvement, but the antlers are too small and they haven't got any bells on their reins. (I've decided they're not real.)

I'm afraid that could possibly be the most nit picky thing I've read on here for many many months... you get something christmassy finally [heaven forbid on a Doctor Who ident] and the antlers are too small?! Some people just can't be pleased!!! and as for ratings, the Christmas episode of Who is known to get roughly 14 million itself [see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyage_of_the_Damned_%28Doctor_Who%29#Broadcast]. AND seeing it's Tennant's finale, I'm sure many non Who fans will tune in this year making it the biggest audience it's ever had.

So taking into account the Doctor is essentially playing the role of santa in the ident, is santa also not good enough?

Plus there was a big tree that the pengiuns were skating round. That's also secular christmassy.

Santa doesn't wear a grey pinstripe suit!

And that wasn't a tree. It was a cone.
