Main ident looks great onscreen, no doubt we'll all be bored stiff of it by Jan 1st but never mind.

The news ident is superb - simple, visually beautiful and the music is probably the most appropriate we've had in years. Puts some of the regular idents used into the news to shame.

Quoted for truth. The ident for the news is just perfect and more appropriate for the news than any of the current idents after they were edited down.

I was hoping there'd be a second, non-Doctor Who ident but it appears there isn't going to be one, so I've deleted BBC One from my DTT EPG and detuned it from analogue. I may or may not bother to retune in January.

These posts are becoming that OTT and immature that it's actually becoming fairly embarrasing for you now. You're quite clearly looking for reactions off people... and if not, then I'm afraid at some point recently you seem to have lost your life somewhere, and need to get it again!

Agreed - compared to the past years of Christmas circle idents, this has to be the most appropriate news ident of them all, particularly with regard to the soundtrack.

And as I haven't given any comments on this years pres in general yet: I think the set is superior to last year - visuals and music. I avoided watching it online - so the 1st TX was my initial sighting of the symbol - and my overall first impression was that it was an improvement on previous years - something I honestly wasn't expecting, which was nice!

I would agree with those who feel the main ident should ideally be a more general one, that doesn't promote a particular character or programme in the schedules; that seems a more suitable approach. It's really my only criticism; I'd have probably preferred to see the more traditional Santa - an icon of Christmas not seen in a festive BBC ident for 9 years now - in the sleigh.

That aside, the idea and execution compared to the last few years is much closer to what I would expect from a Christmas ident - top music too - but it's the news variation of the symbol which deserves special mention; IMHO, they got that one just right.

Am I the only one who thinks that the News ident's soundtrack is'nt too christmassy.

Could they be planning a sort of generic News ident with the same soundtrack for after christmas?

Magical Forest here, the original version no less. I recall Newcastle being slow to use their ident last year too; it wasn't until around a week after the network ident's debut before a local variant appeared.

Brilliant news ident. Shows a darker sky and a logo formation (usual circle formation).

Simple and classy into the news. I like it. Shame there isn't another ident, I can see people complaining about the same Who ident being shown endlessly.

Exactly- the more particular an ident is, the more tiresome it can become. (It's like having the same joke retold and retold and retold...) I'm sure that some viewers are already becoming tired of the Doctor Who ident, which is fine as a one-off and would have been acceptable (though not my personal preference) in t'olden days when the ident was on-air for 3 days, rather than 3 weeks.

I think this is why people liked the ITV1 ident from last year. It was simple but effective and, for me anyway, it never got old.
With the BBC One idents, like you said, they are like the same joke being told over and over.
I remember last year, when I first saw the W&G ident I loved it, by christmas day I was fed up of seeing it before every program, and I think it will be exactly the same this year.

If they used it along side the two variants of the penguins ident (with and without the christmas tree) and the snowball ident, this would be perfect.

At UTV, for oov links, the announcer has no control over mic or ident levels, or even a set of cans to pop on their ears.

Why would they not have headphones? Do they at least have an earpiece for talkback? I'm amazed they're not crashing the intro to shows all over the place!
