I guess Wales had their own copy of Eastenders as it was played out after Network/Scotland started.
Could this have been possible?
8:05pm - Wales playout their copy of Eastenders, while N.I. play their copy (as we've seen they did!)
8:30pm - Wales ident, then opt into BBC One N.I. while they playout Panorama so both BBC One Wales and BBC One N.I. seeing the same feed then.
Wales call Belfast and agree the N.I. announcer does not talk over the Panorama credits as this feed is showing in both nations now.
9:00pm - Wales and N.I. show their own branded trailers while waiting for Network.
9:06pm - Wales, N.I. and Network all in sync again.
In theory, but Wales were a good few minutes behind Network before crashing into WILTY, and even further behind NI.
NI ended up well ahead of Network having put out EastEnders at the correct time.
Wales were only behind network because they stuck with the filler. If they dumped the filler mid flow, played the Welsh public information film at the same time as England's, then Wales would have played Eastenders in sync as Network instead of being a few minutes behind, so when Network started WILTY, Wales still had Eastenders in full flow hence the messy crash into Networks WILTY.
All of this mess on Wales could have been avoided if they did as I've suggested and joined forces with N.I. between 8:05pm - 9:00pm to keep the show on the road in 2 out of the 4 Nations.
Wales would have tried to record Panorama off London's playout hence Al's problem. NI had a copy as it's their programme. I believe the problem was down to a timecode issue

None of the Nations has a feed from other nations. The timings tonight are totally screwed up and until Panorama ended, nobody knew by how much. Playout needs stuff programmed into it along with timings. Believe me, this was a major incident and nobody has time to go and look for the Northern Ireland playout director's number and try to get lines booked after office staff have gone home!!? 😀

And you can't readily drop an item that's playing and go to something else. Playout generally crashes completely if you try.

Not just that, it's very bad form and annoys the viewers.

Though we have seen fairly recently an evening where Cardiff took Belfast output (including NI branding) until the NI pres director was able to set up a Wales-branded service from Belfast - even including a ‘nos da’ in an Irish accent!

Yes it's perfectly possible to do, it just takes some setting up and it's part of a planned procedure for when one centre is lost, not just for playout cock ups
